I posted on the new members group, and someone told me about the 2010 group. I picked up my new 2010 Salsa Red Pearl Trail Edition a week and a half ago, and I love it. We had a snow/ice storm here last weekend (or, at least our Middle-Tennessee version of such), and the truck did great.
I sense a high level of anticipation in every post from someone who is awaiting arrival of their new 4R, and I can relate. Just after Christmas I found out that my trusty 2002 Isuzu Rodeo had a little rod bearing noise at 160K - enough that I could no longer trust it for long-distance travel. So I started shopping.
I was looking at the Xterra, the FJ-Cruiser, and the 4Runner, and after research and test-drives it was an easy decision to go for the Trail Edition. Based on the "Build It" option at the website, I thought you could order exactly the truck you want. I had my heart set on a red Trail, and was pretty dispirited when I found out that all you can do is put in a request and hope one shows up. But a very well-motivated sales associate at Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville, TN found exactly the truck I wanted, in transit to a dealer in a neighboring state, and she managed to snag it. I am delighted with this truck. I travel out West every summer, and that is where I put the true 4WD to good use, and I am really looking forward to getting out West this summer. I have had the Rodeo in a lot of amazing places, and I know that the Trail is a far more-capable vehicle. I am very pleased with this truck. So far, I am not planning on any modifications, but I will be anxious to see what others have to say about brush guards, rock rails, etc. for the 2010 Trail.
