Soon to be Back - Requesting advice!

Hi all,

I'm back coming full circle and finalizing a deal on TRD Off Road Premium. I made the mistake of selling my 2013 TE for diesel ZR2. I was hoping there would be a redesign by now, but I'm not too concerned.

Give me some advice because I've been out of the game for so long. I've searched and searched, so much it has been keeping me up at night!

Color - White or MGM? I was leaning to white because I think white looks good offroad.

TRD Pro wheels

The 4Runner will have KDSS (so the Pro was not an option for me)

The dealership is installing a Toytec BOSS kit before I take delivery. I'm not looking for a crazy lift, 2.5" - 3" max.

I don't think I'm going to do UCA's.

Is a zero point calibration still required? I remember this being a pain on my 2013 once a lift was added.

They recommend 275/70/17 tires. Which is fine, but I don't want E rated. It looks like the Falken Wildpeak is about my only option. I have them on my ZR2 now and they've been great. Does anybody know of another tire that's C rated in that size?

Fingers crossed for no rubbing.

What am I missing? What would you do if you were buying new? Any must haves?

I have no rubbing on road. Need to check off road soon.

I have MGM and love it when its clean for a few minutes a week. Wish I would have bought white, but there was only 1 Pro when I was looking. However I will say this 4R gets way more looks than any white vehicle I've ever owned. Here is a pic with Eibach Pro springs and 285's. Not sure how that measures compared to Toytec. I have no rubbing on road. Need to check off road soon.

Overall it wasn't a bad truck. BUT, it has been in the shop A LOT! I've had to replace two shocks, steering wheel, and a few other small issues. The big issue happened recently, I got the dreaded "poor DEF quality" message on a fishing trip. I was in limp mode the entire way home. Dropped it off at the dealer on September 12th and they didn't get back to me October 5th. They couldn't get the message to clear. Basically replaced the entire emissions system and ECM. I can't delete the DEF system because of emissions testing in Denver. The truck only has 46K miles. So I've learned my lesson. I'm basically going back to the same truck I sold in 2013.

I think the BFG All terrain KO2 comes in that size and load range. I got the KO2 in the stock size (265) and I had the choice of C or E load range. I chose the E because I do some serious off road where sharp rocks may damage a C range tire.

The 275/70/17 KO2 only comes in E load, at least that was the case when I bought mine.

Yep, no E load for 275's.

Yep, only E load in BFG KO2 275’s. C load tires in 275 from other manufacturers weigh almost as much as the E load 275’s. Go 285. You will then not regret it.
Much more selection and availability too.

With that lift you'll easily fit 285's. Might rub a little in front and need some bumper trimming. BFG KO2's in 285 come in C or E. I'm running C load 285's and I've put them through the ringer; sharp rocks all throughout the Sierra Nevada. They've performed spectacularly and don't think the C is any slouch. E is overkill IMO.

You might want to read the thread about Falken Wildpeaks on this forum. I experienced the "wobble" and it was a hassle to go through more balancing (that, of course, didn't help) and finally different tires. Just fyi.

Purchase was made and our first trip to Crystal Mill in the books! The 4Runner performed flawlessly! So far the build includes the Toytec BOSS lift, Falken 275/70's C load (zero rubbing), and I KDSS was a must have.

Since the pic's last weekend the windows are tinted, and blackout overlay applied to chrome bits.

I'm not having much luck findings sliders in stock. I've narrowed the selection to RCI, RSG, or Cali Raised.

I have the Toytec Boss lift and love it. I got mine about 2 years ago so it came with Bilstein's, now it comes with "Alumina". Not sure who makes those shocks or what exactly it is but I hear good things about it although I think it is more expensive. I did get SPC UCA's and don't regret it. Only $450 for the SPC's. No problems with them. I have 285s. Required a minor fender line mod and slight cutting of the bumper but no BMC. I just put Hankook Dynapro AT2 RF11's on it. 20/32 tread depth and 60k warranty in E load. So far so good, really quiet compared to the KO2s.

Good find! Do you know much about them? I don't see a KDSS specific slider listed, but their mounting brackets are not as big. So it might be one size fits all.

I've run the OPOR sliders on my KDSS rig for 7 years. Very high quality product. Excellent powder coat also. I believe both varieties are KDSS compatible , however, I'd contact them to verify. They are quite responsive.
I saw an article on the the other day, I believe they've been around for 16 years

I have the boss kit when radflo made them and 275 ko2 with wheel spacers. I was in the same situation when I built this. I didn’t want any rubbing so that’s why I went with 275’s but they still rub a little and had to trim the front bumper, now I’m kicking myself for not getting 285 for a better ride and clearance. White does look best off road lol
