Sooo many Tacomas

Hi guys, long time lurker, first post bla bla....

To the point, I just got back form Hawaii, Kauai actually. I saw more Tacomas there in a week than I've seen in my whole life, I swear they must issue them to anyone that moves to the island. By far the most popular vehicle on the island(outside of rentals).There are also tons of lifted vehicles there, some poorly, but it was crazy to see so many modded vehicles in such a condensed space.

So what does one do when they give you a free rental upgrade.....
get dirty. Anyway it was nice to get back to driving the 4runner after having the Wranger.

Did you return the rental looking that way? I feared a penalty because they had my credit card on file thus I washed the Jeep rental before I returned it to Dollar.

I totally agree, Tacos must be made in HI and given when the new drivers license is issued at 16.

Yeah I washed my rental as well when I returned it in Hawaii. I felt bad giving it back all muddy.

We intended to wash it, but ended up not. The girls at the counter laughed when we pulled up.

They laughed because they knew how hard they were going to hit your credit card for the cleaning bill. Ok joking aside I hope they don't charge you anything and just expect it to get returned that way. Especially if there was any inclement weather while you were there.

Toyota consistently has the highest market share of all manufacturers in Hawaii. The Tacoma is in the top 5 vehicles sold.

I think the typical Hawaii car progression goes :

• 16-20 years old = Corolla (Grandpa/Grandma's car when they stopped driving)
• 21-30 years old = Tacoma
• 31-40 years old = 4Runner (or Sienna, depending on how many kids)
• 41-50 years old = Highlander
• 51-60 years old = Avalon
• 61-70 years old = Camry
• 71+ = Corolla (which gets handed down to the grandkid)

(Substitute the Lexus equivalent for the richer folks)

I can say that Oahu is big time Toyota supporters. My brother alone has a ’05 Tacoma and ’07 Tundra.

True, a handful of slammed Tacomas and some Nissans too. I didn't really notice an abundance of Toyotas in general, just Tacomas with some Tundras and 4runners mixed in.

For those concerned, the charges went through for the rental so I think we're in the clear. :driving:
