So after reading a bunch of stuff about the Stop Online Piracy Act, i came to the conclusion that t4r would be subject to be taken down... this would mean we would no longer have access to all the great write-ups, pictures, links, among other things.

yes this is a bit off topic, but this forum is very important to me and i'm sure many other members on here. please be aware of what is about to happen. the internet as we know it would be long gone should this pass.

It would be similar to taking two steps back from forward or progressive thinking. It is not as if the rest of the world is going to stop the piracy just because the US passes this Act. Plus the broad based verbal power of the bill's wording gives sweeping control to arbitrarily decide if a Website such as this is engaged in nefarious acts of copyright infringement or not. If it is, then the plug may indeed be pulled.

And the answer to why SOPA was introduced lies in what the Matrix is.

i posted this so that people are aware of what is going on. there's a reason you haven't heard much about it, they keep it on the DL because if the whole country knew this, there's no way this would pass. this is simply them taking our right to educate ourselves. they've controlled the media because that gives them the ability to just teach us what they want us to know. now they want to control the internet for the same reason.

I don't disagree with the validity of your point or of the discussion in general. I do disagree that this is the place for it. As evidenced by the 4th post in this thread, it would likely not be a civil discussion and would quickly devolve into name calling and conspiracy theories, none of which help me keep my 4Runner running awesome.

The offended parties have the freedom of not opening this thread just as I do to enter it. As stated, there have been "off topic" posts and threads since my join date, but nobody has complained there. Why those offended feel the need to post here in this thread is beyond me. If you disagree with the topic or posts here, exercise your freedom of NOT posting or reading this thread, but DA.MN for sure do not tread on my right to do so, especially when there have been similar threads/offenders where nobody has complained.

Yeah, not a lot of personal attacks and name calling in that post. This one got it going pretty quickly, though not your fault. Props to you for thinking it through and wanting to start an intelligent discussion. Apparently not everyone is up to that level, though.

I think this is why the OP posted...bc politics are possible to infringe on what they deem is illegal/legal from the stroke of a pin, and there is plenty of stuff they could go after here at t4r.org, but have no right to. Where was this bill when man discovered fire? Think, that caveman's corporation would rule the world as we know it....and we'd still be in the stone age!

I do apologize if I upset anyone from my original rant, but it is not my fault that 'you' are miss-informed on history and the political landscape. I did not direct it towards anyone, if you felt it was directed toward yourself, maybe your conscience is telling you something. You can't believe anything put out there nowadays, you just have to take it all in and disseminate it for what it is worth and make sense of it with a critical mind, not a naive or cynical one.
That is why it saddens me to hear that no one wants to talk about it here, if we just keep ignoring it like typical americans thinking that it is going to solve itself... soon enough there may be no place on the web to have constructive discussions.

This is just another example of the corporate elites trying to strangle more earnings(maximize profits) from its proletarians. It is far time to separate corporations from politics... and this is a slap to the face of American society if it passes... plain and simple.

I recently listened to an audio clip from the 80s on YouTube, it was Bush Sr. & R. Regan debating immigration. It will blow your mind. They sound like today's supposedly "liberal dems".

I used to be an O8ama supporter. I am no longer drinking the coolaid. Not because he is "too liberal" but because he is a bad leader, a bad politician, I don't feel he represents me, he-is-the-establishment and HE WORKS FOR THE BANKS.

This might sound off the wall to many of you but simply Google "us wages inflation adjusted" and you will see the ave college educated male makes the same amount he did in 1996. All while the GDP has gone up X times to today's ~ $14T.

I am now an independent and I will write in Ron Paul if he doesn't make the ballot.

This makes so much ****ing sense. I think i'm going to put this in my signature. This is how i feel anyone starts arguing or talking about how a post doesn't belong. It doesn't get much simpler then two clicks. By posting in a thread you don't agree with you are only prolonging the life of that thread. If enough people agree with your particular stance on a thread--AND they don't post--the thread dies and everyone forgets it's existence.

There is an "Off Topic" section for this stuff. The 3rd gen forum is supposed to be about techy stuff. That said, no one ever seems to look at the Off Topic forum so I understand posting it here if you want people to actually read your thread. Doesn't bother me personally.

About the new law though, I think it's BS too. But then again, I think most new laws are BS. Like the new law in CA that a child had to be 4'9" or 8 years old or they must be in a car seat. I know lots of little old ladies that if it weren't for their age, they wouldn't be allowed to drive without a car seat. So apparently, your age determines the chances of whether or not you are likely to get killed/injured in a crash, lol. All the while, school buses must be 100% crash-proof, right?.. Because they don't need car seats. Hell, they don't even put SEATBELTS in school buses. WTF??

Obama's "change" just means more laws and restrictions on what we as citizens can do. Did you guys who voted for BHO really think "change" meant that we would be less restricted and have fewer laws? Of course not. More laws, less freedom = change. And now we act surprised. I'm actually surprised it took them this long to try to regulate the internet. It sucks, but the people voted him in because they wanted "change" and a new progressive president. And now we got him.
