I used 6" foil back roof flashing and 6" AC duct work tape, lowes and AC supply house.
Foam, Queen size egg crate 1.5" thick pad inner body sides and roof, there's places for more.
Interior coming out again for vid cable run, more places for foam and needing some, went dumpster diving.
In a way. Was at homegoods store loading dock a gazillion 36x40x1.5 egg crate pads for recycler, sure take all you want.
Store selling home goods they'll have it.
The roof I used 1/2" corrugated plastic heat shield room for another half inch.

appreciate the input guys. bought kilmat. it doubles as a heat shield as well and isnt asphalt based. there was a pretty good yt video comparing a bunch of them. given im in az, makes sense.
is adding a second layer of siless common? wasnt expecting to do that. just going to do the doors and maybe the front cockpit area with whatever is left.
planning on buying something new in the coing months (v8 gx if dealers get there heads out of their asses). will make sure to have plenty of kilmat around so as i get into stuff ill keep sound proofing areas.
and NO....NO WAY IN HECK im selling this 4Runner. just want a more capable rig for towing something on the heavy side.

Here's the way to think about it. The Kilmat, Dynamat, etc -- heavy stuff that sticks to the sheet metal, is to reduce the vibration of the sheet metal. The foam absorbs airborne sound (Kilmat does not do that).

Bang for the buck and asphalt based product fumes, how it turned out.
Having heard of fumes gave it shot anyway. Fumes gassed off first 6-8 months or so open windows & AC fixed it,
end of year interior temps hitting 120-30 windows up don't know it's there.
It's a 4Runner, for resto restomod etc, Nope.
Insulating worth the effort only downside, a real PITA to fix.

I was going to recommend Raamat but he went out of business!!! Too bad, the mats and foam were of high quality and half the price of Dynamat.
The door panels already have a thick foam lining so there's no need for foam in or around the doors. Floors? Yes. Rear cargo area? Yes - make that TWO LAYERS of foam!

My door panels had foam on them I put foil back mastic on the inside of outer door skin
don't cover up door drains at the bottom.

Don’t cheap out use good deadening mats the cheap stuff melts in the summer and makes a mess that is almost impossible to clean up ,I did the cheap mat on my Solara and regretted it, it took a few weeks to get the doors cleaned out it clogged all the drains on the doors to. I found out the hard way after a heavy down poor the driver door filled with water.
I did this on my girl friends 3 gen doors & floors all Dynamat made the stereo sound better & less road noise, doors were less tinny shutting them and it was about 80 to 90% less noise with stock exhaust. I removed the whole interior and put the Dynamat just about every inch of exposed metal took a few days. My girl friend liked it a-lot she said it canceled out most of the annoying noise from the at tires & the doors felt solid when she closed them.
Also did my 5th gen
I used Dynamat on my doors & Kilmat on the floors and rear quarter panels, the Dynamat was thinner by about 5mm & a little lighter for the doors & the rear hatch. The Kilmat was better for the interior floors & rear quarter panels, & b pillars. I think next time I take the door panels off I might use some foam padding if I remember.
The Dynamat on the doors inner and outer panels made the doors feel like a euro car when closing them no tinny sound when shutting them & the floor with the Kilmat took away about 80% of road noise but I could still hear the drone of the TRD exhaust not as bad but still loud maybe 40 to 45% less drone.
