Has anyone mounted the component speakers in the kick panel location for better imaging? the only thing is that you would have to make custom fiberglass enclosures. there is another option: i did hear that someone put the tweeters flush mounted in the kick panels(aimed to opposite passenger) and just put the midrange in the stock bottom door location. That might improve imaging and reduce the seperation distance between the woofer and tweeter. has anyone tried this? i may try this to see how this sounds.

I custom built a set of kicks for my 2nd gen. Worked beautifully for imaging and staging. And the paint job on them is better than brand new cars you see on the road too....
As to your second question, doing that would work but it would not be near as good as a set of true kickpanels. Remember sound becomes omni-directional at about 80hz for most people. (For me about 50hz) Remember, the midrange is playing from 70hz on up to about 4000hz, so ALL of that frequency range is directional...

For human hearing to get the full possible sound quality, I recommend getting that middle speaker in the dash. Just that would help improve it alot. The staging would be really good if you had a tweeter mounted right near the woofer to improve the staging.
