Sounding Farty

My Runner is sounding a little too much like I'm driving a farted up Neon or something. Underneath all the sound is coming mainly from the engine (normal engine sound) and the area of the photo (more rat-a-tat). The rest of the pipe and parts sound quiet.

I don't know what this part is, but there is some bending of the tag where the green circle is, suggesting a bump off-road, and there is separation where the red circle is. There at the red circle it appears a bit of exhaust smoke/fumes are coming out, and there is some hot blowing, about the pressure of the air that comes out of my mouth if I whistle.

Hopefully it can just be bent or tightened back to normal?

yeah im 99.99% sure thats what the problem is i had my muffler off b4 so i know what ur talking about, make sure when u take off the old bolts put some anti seize on the new ones because they tend to freeze up.

I'm going to get on this right away as I believe exhaust gas is working it's way into the engine area, and this could potentially allow cabin entry.

I think I'm going to get my local mechanic to do it. He'll have an easier time of getting the parts (delivered in 10 minutes) and he'll get it done fast and cheap. He'll apply heat with acetylene.

dude all you need are two bolts and a new gasket from autozone do it urself for under 10 bucks, if you can use a ratchet you can do this job.

No surprises except for the tightness of the bolts? I'll give it a whirl, then. I just get nervous sometimes, as often my DIYs end in disaster somehow.

just use some pbblaster to spray it before you try to tackle it.

I went to my muffler shop for the parts but the guy thought I'd just burn out a gasket. We kept the proper joiner piece on the pre-cat, but cut off the end of the connecting pipe and welded it together. The repair will outlast the life of the parts it connects, so we're good. The farting is gone. It took 15 minutes and $25. I know I kind of ignored all your advice. :nono: Sorry.
