Southern CA Area Highlander?

2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4X4, $11,995 - Cars.com

Can anyone in Southern Cal. (Between LA/SD) area verify this vehicle? It's located in Fallbrook, CA. (Which, unfortunately, doesn't really seem to be "near" anything.) I just called and it's still available. Per the seller it doesn't appear to have an e-locker, but that's fine by me. Low miles, 5-speed, 4x4, Imperial Jade Mica, I can't think of anything else I would want.

Once again, I can compensate anyone willing to take a look. PM or reply to this thread. It's a stretch, since I'm in MN but I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else who's looking as well. (Can't really call "dibs", now can I.)

It isnt that far from Oceanside/ Camp Pendleton. I am about 45 minutes North of it. I will be busy rest of this week with work but if you can't get anyone closer or sooner I can try to get down there for you.

Thanks for the offer Pikeman, I'll follow up with you later this week if needed.

Mistaj0hnny, thanks for the link but I'm looking for a 4x4. That one's nice but it's only 2wd.

Are you looking for 5 speed, auto or either? Where are you located? We might be able to help you out a bit more. That 4runner is nice, but way too overpriced, even for California.

I know it's a bit expensive, but if it checks out I'd offer around 10k or so.

I'd love to have a 5spd 99-00 with the highlander package, but realize those are quite rare. Automatic would suffice, too. My next option is an 01 Sport/02 Sport Edition (which I know is only Auto.)

There's not much in my immediate area (Mpls/St. Paul) so I've been looking in the Chicago Area, Denver, Bay area, and just general Auto Trader and Cars.com browsing. Realistically, I don't want to spend over 11k, so that makes the 01-02 cars I've seen a bit out of my price range.

That rig is way overpriced and finding someone to go to Fallbrook will be a PITA as well since it's REALLY off the beaten path. Keep looking!

Thanks Big John. I think I needed someone to talk me off the ledge, so to speak. I got excited at work when I found that truck, but now that I'm home and researching a bit more the logistics just don't seem to work. I'm keeping it as an option, but I'm still looking.

And also, thanks for the link SCRunner12.

so, you're over the one in fallbrook, right?

i'm about 40 minutes south of fallbrook.

i could look at it for you but the weather isn't going to be that great this week and possibly the weekend.

let me know if you change your mind... i might be able to make a run this saturday.

If its decent and he passes it up let me know. If I end up transferring to San Diego I'm considering selling the 4runner and just waiting to get over there to buy another one.

I'm still going to follow up on the truck, but with tempered expectations. I should have more details later today.

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions.

That is a nice truck, last week I found a '99 Highlander in Texas for $7,000 90K miles and looked very clean. I understand the Highlander 4Runners are rare but asking over $10,000 is a bit much.

If you have the time and are willing to travel a little, you can find a very good deal.

Well, I'm about ready to call it on this one. I lined up a PPI locally in Fallbrook at Autoheimrepair.com, but haven't scheduled it because I just can't justify this rig. Even if the PPI checks out and the sellers will take 10k, I still have no way of getting to Fallbrook to pick it up. From what I can tell it's a little more than an hour from San Diego, and I'd hate to ask the sellers if they would pick me up after I just offered them 2k less than what they're asking. Who knows, maybe I'll win the Powerball tonight and that all will change.

As a side note, DON'T fill out any info for a "free shipping" quote for auto transport. I stupidly filled out one form on one site to get a quote shipping the truck from San Diego to Minneapolis (used my Google Voice #) and promptly received no less than six calls from auto shippers wanting my business. :(

To Pikeman and Javendan, thanks for the offers to check it out but I don't want to waste your time if I can't figure out how I'd even get to Fallbrook. If you're in the area and feel like checking it out for anyone else interested (MillerPKA maybe?), please post what you find on the forum. Who knows maybe it will still be there after a few weeks.

Maybe the fact that its in Fallbrook explains the high price...

I say keep looking as well, even at 10K its still a little too much imo

Can someone clue me in on what it is about the Highlander that makes or worth 3-k more than others? I'd rather buy a sport/limited and put the extra into mods. $.02
