Hey [MENTION=123371]fargo4x4[/MENTION], when you speak about the drop hitch, how low does it actually go? From the pictures of your rig, it seems the high clearance that requires some rear frame mods makes the bumper relatively flush, thus providing a clear departure angle. The benefit for me is not needing to do any cutting of the frame, but would the drop hitch significantly or slightly reduce my clearance angle beyond what the stock SR5 bumper is rated for. Thank you!

The drop down hitch will basically be the lowest point on your rear end which for the most part is how it is on your stock bumper. Kevin would have to confirm this but im also of the belief that the integrated hitch is a much stronger tow point then a bolt on drop down hitch receiver is... Most of us arent towing anything insane since these vehicles are not meant for heavy towing but if anyone has aspirations of maybe action trailers or pulling a camper I think I would definitely go with the integrated hitch like we have.

As of right now no but we have our reverse lights on the roof rack anyway which we find to be a bit more practical.

So here are some shots with the hatch open, keep in mind ours is the frankenstein prototype but essentially this is what we came up with. Which you all will receive something similar as well.. The step plate will bolt on to the same holes the old bumper did and rest on top of the SSOffroad bumper or can be fastened to it. Ours doesnt quite fit properly but it does the job. Yalls will look similar but fit better.

I like the high-clearance hitch but am a bit intimidated by the idea of cutting my frame. I'll likely be installing the bumper myself. Will cutting it make it more susceptible to rust and/or breaking? I ask because I'm ignorant on such things.
I don't plan on doing any crazy approach and departure angles. Will the drop hitch really make that much difference? I was able to do pretty much what I want with the stock bumper and hitch, only rubbed slightly at the worst of what I was driving.

The bumper is heavy, noted; however do the pieces ship all connected with the assumption we mount the bumper...or does it ship in "incremental" pieces (all at once of course) and we can install it ourselves without need of jacks or "pro" hydraulic lifts or equipment. Pretty much since I'm babbling, summing it up to: can two people of relative strength install the bumper? Thanks!

[MENTION=119136]nmhyoti[/MENTION] install will be very similar to any steel bumper install. I'm sure 2 people can easily complete this install. I'm assuming the bumper will be shipped in pieces(accessories detached) on a single pallet as opposed to compeltely built.

[MENTION=126331]Eric0321[/MENTION]- The integrated hitch is for those that want the most clearance possible. If you feel you don't need that, go with the drop down hitch. Cutting the frame won't cause rusting as long as you paint over what you cut. Just make sure there isn't any raw exposed metal.

Also the bolt on hitch will be designed so that it can be taken off for the same departure angle that the integrated hitch does. It will only be rated for 3500lbs.The fully integrated hitch is proven to 5k lbs.

Edit. I think I read this wrong. Let me rephrase. High hitch that requires cutting is good for 5k, drop down hitch option that doesn't require cutting is good for 3500#. Did I get it right?


Can the OEM hitch be used at the same time with the bumper, so the full 5k can be achieved? I'm thinking I may pull a 4500# camper in the future.

Please put me down for bumper, tire swing out, drop down hitch, and the free camera relocation kit. Before ordering the Jerry Can Holster, does the bumper already have in place the connections for the future order of an extra swingout (whether it be the actual jerry can or ladder)? I'm sure it's been asked before but the parts are modular and if we don't order the left side swingout accessories, we can still order it down the road and plug and play, right? I apologize for the many questions!!

[MENTION=103959]cyclist[/MENTION] Yes you got that right, that is what [MENTION=110183]SouthernSS[/MENTION] said. I doubt the OEM hitch is usuable with this bumper. If you plan on pulling 4500lbs it sounds like you need the high clearance hitch.

This sounds awesome! I definitely want this in my bumper. Any idea what type of light you're going to use as a template for the cutout? Maybe a Rigid SRM or SRQ?

If you look at our original post i think some shots are there as well as our instagram, we installed it in our driveway and did all the frame cutting in our driveway as well lol its a little tricky but with 2 people you can pull it off... the frame cutting is the hardest part mainly cuz we just picked up the bare minimum tools from harbor freight lol but its a fun project =)

It will ship all as one you will have to install the swing arms after you install the bumper of course

After reading thru some of the Q's, It sounds like the drop down hitch can't hold 5000lb tow weight. If this is true, then I'll change my order to the Hight Mount Hitch.

Also, any thoughts on making a bike rack swing arm?
