Space friendly sound system suggestions?

Hey all!

So, I currently have a 12" JL sub sitting in my 07 4Runner. Im hoping to convert my T4R to a more camping friendly setup, so am looking to get rid of the current sub and try to come up with a more space friendly config, that would allow the back seat to fold down so that space can be used for sleeping.

Does anyone have any experience with small but powerful systems in their trucks? Is it maybe better to scrap the subs altogether in favor of more dynamic and broad speakers? I listen to a lot of bass heavy music and I really love the sound/quality of the current set up, but it just wont be practical come camping season.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I did the conversion from a stock JBL sub (in the passenger quarter panel) to an 8" JL 1v3 as recommended by Ark's excellent thread. While it was a definite upgrade to the JBL sub, I was coming from a 12" sealed sub in my last car, so I found it a little underwhelming.

The best suggestion I've got is to build yourself a sleeping platform with some storage and a sub enclosure. IIRC the enclosure volume is more critical than its shape, so with a shallow mount sub the platform wouldn't take up too much vertical space.
