Space under rear deck??

Hi All,

I have been lurking around here for a few months now and I really love this forum. This is my first post and I apologize if this has been discussed in another forum, but I could not find the answer that I am searching for. I am looking at purchasing a 2011 SR5 and I am trying to figure out the options. The slide out cargo try seems pretty cool, but my local Toyota dealer never has one in stock for me to look at (always has the third row seat). I am trying to figure out if there is any storage space under it or if it is just the rails for the sliding tray?

For anyone that has an SR5 without the 3rd row seat and without the sliding cargo tray, is there storage space under the rear floor? My current truck has all kinds of space under the rear floor and it is really useful to store the stuff that the wife does not want to look at :thumb3:.

If anyone has a pic of the storage area, that would be cool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

There is no storage space in the rear floor under the tray. You can gain about 3 inches of cargo room by removing it my no in floor storage. With an SR5 and no 3rd row or tray you just get a flat floor. On my TE version with tray you get a very small storage box just in front of the tray but that's it.

I don’t believe there is any storage under the floor in the 4runner. I have just seen the sliding rails when I have had the tray extended. With the sliding tray there is a small flat storage compartment just forward of the sliding portion of the tray.

You can't fit a dead body in there if that's what your asking, but maybe something very thin and small could fit.

With the slide-out tray, you do actually get a tiny bit of space, but it is not much. I have a set of somewhat heavy duty jumper cables under it and it still slides in and out fine. I have room to store a few other "flat" things there, such as a DeLorme Atlas, or something of that nature. See pic below. Second pic is the other storage area behind the slide out tray. If you do not get one with 3rd row, another secret place to store a lot of things is under the second row seats. I have my tow rope and hooks under there now and there is room to spare. I also have a battery box under my hood to store my air cables and attachments. It is a smaller box that just barely fits in on the passenger side between the side of the car and the power steering fluid reservoir.

I would have thought that both the rear elevated areas over the rear tires in the rear cab could be removed to store something. I tried to remove it but stopped after thinking I was about to break it.

Thanks for the many useful reply's and pics, that is exactly what I was looking for. I was really just looking for a space to store things like the jumper cables and other small stuff that I do not want out in the open.

I wish I could have gotten the info from my Toyota dealer, but he is not very knowledgable.

Yes, me too...I want to build and mount removable tool boxes over the wheel wells, and fabricate them so they have a nice clean look. Molding fiberglass is way over my head, and I think doing a wooden box won't look nice. Would be cool if somebody would make this and sell it to us 5th gen owners. I think the small long skinny storage compartment between the sliding deck and the second row seats is really difficult to reach and totally inconvenient, although I am still glad it is there...

..... If you do not get one with 3rd row, another secret place to store a lot of things is under the second row seats.

Excellent idea... I never woulda thought of that. At last, a place for my jumper cables.

I really miss the nice big under-floor storage area in my PF.

I was looking for the same type of thing on my 2010 TE with the slider. I didn't really like the slider so i removed it and built a storage compartment underneath. I can actually fit quite a lot in there. I can get more pics if you want, but there is a scoped M4 in the case.(just to give some perspective of course-I would never dream of transporting a "Black Gun")

They can be. The tops can be removed but it does require breaking the tabs. I think there are 2 tabs on each side if I remember right. I made it so I can pop the tops off above each wheel well and store some stuff in there. They press back into plae just fine and are tight. I'll try to get a couple of pics later if wanted. I know there is a write-up on it somewhere in this forum. Maybe Antman or Harper? I cant remember.

Does this allow a flat surface through out the whole back of the vehicle when the seats are folded down? And do you know how deep your compartment is that you made? I want to do this exact mod to my cargo area.
