Spacers -> Larger Tires

I'm currently a student wanting to lift my '00 to get slightly bigger tires on my runner for the snow and a bit of offroading. The issue is this: I'm broke and won't get a well paying job until mid summer but want the tires NOW. With this in mind I was thinking of buying some spacers so I can get the tires on now and replacing them with OME in a year or so.

I'm looking at the 1.5" kit (KT09112BK) by Daystar. Anyone recommend this one? Or any other ones?

Also, can I get 265/75/16's with NO rubbing?

:thanks:

you can fit those tires. might be a little rub at full turn since its a '00. (someone clarify for me?) i was also looking at coil spacers too if thats what your looking at. 1.5'' goes pretty cheap but i've noticed when you get in the 2.5-3'' it gets more expensive. i'm sayin just look around for used sets and i'm pretty sure you can score yourself a deal. or just do like me and buy pieces at a time. i just bought 2.5'' coil spacers for the front for really cheap couple months ago

Excuse me cause I'm still learning all this stuff but are the missing parts in the ad necessary? The diff drop, top plate and extended studs? And if I need more than 1.5" what about the Daystar 2.5"? The reason I was thinking the Daystar 1.5" is because they seemed easy enough to install, I've only done basic work like replacing plugs, brakes, etc.

i put a skyjacker 2.5 block on mine, if is all you want to do it put the block on top its not that hard. i had to take then entire tower apart and install 2 different ones, one on top and one on top of the coil, to get mine and it was the worst thing i have ever done. there is definitely a right technique to it but finding a tech shop to do it would be best if its like mine.

Yes, those parts are important. The seller said he could help you locate them.

I'm not exactly sure what the cost of the Daystar 1.5" kit is, but I thought it would be close to the same cost.

They should install the same way since they are both spacer lifts.

if you have 2wd then you can get the diff. drop. might not be needed tho since its only 1.5''. the stress wont be too bad on those diffs. however if you have 2wd , you dont have to worry about purchasing diff. drop kits

yeah, i have a 2WD also and wanted to lift mine, thinking about just using spacers since the rear is already sagged. We don't need diff drops cause we don't have the 4WD CV's right?

exactly.
just search around yotatech/t4r/and ttora for used coil spacers..they pop up once in a while for cheap

the link clemsonfan posted was one of the recent . he already sold..i should of bought tho. i just need coil spacers for the rear

ALSo, can someone clarify for me and the OP, if a 2.5 coil spacer will give you 2.5'' increase from ground to fender or like 2'' or like 1.5''

I have a Revtek front spacer I am selling with the top plate if interested. This includes the extended studs and bolts. All you would need them would be a rear 2 or 2.5 spacer. You can find it here.

I know people have talked about horror stories about taking apart front coil assemblies but I didn't think it was that bad. Just rented some spring compressors and in about an hour I had them both apart. I've put them together the same way as well. Best solution if you are on a budget.

You can run 265/75 R16 without the spacer lift. I am running them on my 01 and it looks pretty tight but I don't have rubbing issues. I am moving to the OME lift because I have been saving my $.

I don't mean to hijack the topic, but just looking at Daystar, the decrypting if some if the spacers say they don't pre load the coils. So does that take care of premature sag? Or is that still at risk...?

Top mount spacers dont pre-load the springs and you get your factory ride but you're more at risk for ball joint failure. The other spacers go underneath the strut mount and all they do in pre-load the spring to give you lift, this gives a more harsh ride and will wear your springs out faster. Spacer lifts are only cheap up front. I would reccomend Old Man Emu springs, they provide great lift and they arent very much more expensive. Check out www.wheelersoffroad.com for springs.

So, is the ball joint failure only prone to off roading or daily driving? If I lift my truck, it would be mostly for looks so spacers seem ideal. I see Daystar has a 2.5" kit with spacers and OME coils, that seems like the best option if you buy new right?

I wheeled the hell outta my Tacoma with top spacers for about 40,000 miles(from 184k-roughly 220k) on the stock ball joints and only ever lost one. If you're just shooting for looks I think they would be fine.

My Revtek kit with 285/75 R16 was pretty cheap. Ride is not that great but only rubs when flexed and the tire gets stuffed in wheel well.
If i did it all over I would save the money for better ride and more flexwith no rub.

Back to one of the original questions.

Some brands of tires run bigger and some run smaller. (of the same size, the Yokohama AT/S 265/75-16 measures 31.9" and the BFG AT is 31.7")

I have 3"+ of lift and my 265/75-16 Yokos rub while wheeling. I can still fully stuff to the bumpstops and my tires rub at full stuff. The rubbing is minor and nothing to worry about. I did use a heat gun to soften/melt the inner fender and pushed it in. It helped.

They wouldn't rub any more even with the stock suspension.

You will not necessarily get the same amount of lift as the spacer thickness. I had Daystar 2.5" spacers on my fronts and only gained 1.875" of lift after they were installed. I was somewhat disappointed.
