Spammers...suggestion.

To the moderators:

I know that many of us don't like the spammers on these boards. However I also know it's not the easiest thing to deal with. I used to belong to a photography forum (which doesn't exist anymore) that had a clever way of dealing stopping these people. Not sure if this is possible to implement here, but just throwing it out there to see if something can be done.

All new members did not need to be approved, but whatever they posted DID! So a moderator would approve posts for new members say for the first couple of times. Once they felt they were legit (really easy to tell if someone is posting porn or has a question about the 4runner) they would somehow automatically turn off this forced moderation. Essentially the users were directly moderated, rather than the forums themselves.

e.g. So If I signed up today and posted a message, it would not show up until a moderator approved it. So I post again in a couple of days and again the moderator approves it and realizes I actually own a Toyota all future posts are automatically approved until I do something stupid to deserve being blocked.

I am not sure if this will help or is possible to implement here, but it is a suggestion that might make things a bit cleaner? Maybe someone has a better idea or a solution beyond reporting messages and waiting for them to be removed.
