spare tire dumb@** question

Ok, I am sure you can see it coming: I got a flat the other day, went to get the spare down...and no tool!

How in the bloody heck do I get the spare tire down from under my '90 without the missing tool?

I got under there and cannot seem to find anyplace to stick a screwdriver...and the hole in the bumper seems to go nowhere.

(I just left the spare there, and sent the flat out to be fixed.)

Do you have the manual that came with the truck?, it shows you how. you stick a rod that comes with your kit at a angle in the hole and turn it to drop it down.

If you don't have the manual I will take some pic's for you and post let me know.

Try pep boys, autotrack or any auto parts store. I think the tool is pretty standard. My old company's chevy van had a similar tool to get the spare tire out.

all else fails, I'm sure toyota dealer or a junk yard would have something...

also do a search for an online company that may carry it.

I found some wrecks at the salvage yard with good swing-away tire carriers. I can take my pick for 25 bucks! Just have to get out the tape measure and figure if the Ford or the Pathfinder's will fit the best (no 'Yo's to strip). Then get someone to weld in some blind nuts and gussets for me so I can mount the thing!

Just wanted to check if any one had pictures of underneath. I'm trying to see what it is supposed to look like for the spare. Mine has some rigged bracket with a bungee cord not to safe.

Ok I went out in the cold and took a pic for you.(things you do for your fellowT4R.ORG guys)

Sorry it is so muddy and dirty had a little fun not to loong ago

you can see there is a clamp holding the tire on and it is held on with a thick wire and you put the bar in the bumper and spin it to lower it.

I'll post a link when I get them up...none of the 4R tho Thot of that after we left.

Did have a blast tho: It was a camporee with about a dozen other troops. Each troop had to develop and run a station that used scouting skills. Ours was to lash together poles to make a catapault and toss snowballs. Had a blast! A couple of counter-weighted trebuches won it with tosses of 55 and 60 feet. Not bad for a first try with 30 minutes to do it!

Just on a note on my 90 4runner the jack and tire lowering tool is stored under the back seat not in the tool bag you might be looking in the wrong place the tire lowering tool is about 30 inches long it has a hook on one end and a square shaft at the otherthe hook end is what gors into the bumber also if you look at night using a flashlignt open the tail gate and then look between the tilgate and bumper you will be able to see where the tool fits to lower the tire
