Spare tire issue

Hey all...I have looked at this forum from time to time and love how we all love our 4Runners...I had a 90,V6,4WD and sadly it went to the great mud pit in the sky after a crazy roll over on a freeway in Charlotte.
Now...I have an 88,V6, 4wd and I love it.
I have just replaced the radiator as the -26 degrees in Minneapolis was too much for the original...no big deal.
Here is my question...I don't have the spare tire lowering bar...is it the squareish type or is it the hook type? Is there any secret trick to getting the tire down with any other type of tool or do I need to find a rod somewhere and which type is it?I hate to even put this out there as tomorrow i'll go out and one of my tires will be flat....
Answers to this easy question are greatly appreciated and please don't ask me to post my roll over pics it makes me nauseous...but I will in appreciation for the good answers
thanks
izz

When I first bought mine, I was able to lower it with a tire iron. Then I found the stock bar on E-bay. Junk yard 4-runners are rare in my area. (I haven't found one yet.) The bar allows you to lower the tire without having to crawl under the chassis. Whatever I bought on e-bay came with a screw jack and other tools. Consequently, I have duplicate tools. However, the toyota screw jack is the safest one I have found in my 45 years of working on vehicles. I am happy to own two of them.
