spare tire lock recommendations?

Hey guys/gals. I'm having the worst time trying to find a spare tire lock for my 4runner. I've finally gotten another rim/tire/winch purchased, and now I just need something to make sure it doesn't get stolen again.

I'm looking for something steel and solid (like a winchlock, or u-lock), because anything braided can easily just get sliced again. I also don't want to do the chain and masterlock system like my buddy has. The chain clanks whenever the car hits a larger bump, and the chain scratches the crap out of the rim.

I've searched a handful of forums and google, and found outdated suggestions with companies/products that are either no longer in business or are kind of sketchy.

Anyone have a solid recommendation for something that'll secure the spare under the 4runner?

Much thanks!

I'd get a heavy duty cable, coated in vinyl.
Kyrpton makes some very thick ones with loops on the ends.
Down here, Ace Hardware has them. I do not know where to get them up north.
I have 2 of them. One very long that I use to secure my hunting tree stand to the tree, and another I use on my bike.
The cable is almost 1/2 inch thick. It would be a lot of work to cut that thing.

For the lock, get a good lock that has the hasp encased when closed. Can't get a pair of bolt cutters around the hasp that way. A lot of gates around here use them to discourage tresspass. If you can't find one of those with the rubber casing, you can wrap it with electrical tape. I've done that to the one on my bike to prevent noise and scratching.

Good luck!

Would this below work?

99+ FORD F250 SUPER DUTY PICKUP SPARE TIRE WINCHLOCK: eBay Motors (item 160408301078 end time Jun-25-10 15:36:39 PDT)

I don't know what that round piece is at the top, but I think it might be able to work under the 4runner.

Just coming back to this thread to post that it worked! I managed to secure my spare with the Motiv Winchlock.

Here's a link to the seller's auction on ebay. He has a few up for auction now:

thanks for coming back with the update

that seems like a pretty reasonable price to pay to secure the spare.

Appreciate you telling us that it works for our rigs as well.
