Spare tire protection for factory underbody location

If I had a used 285 on a steel wheel I probably wouldn’t care. This was a inexpensive trial before my trip. I wished you could have joined us. Great time and group. Maybe next time. Three of the four 4Runners were white. You could have been the fourth. I was the black sheep.

Wish I could have! But one of our small furry familly members got sick so we have been taking care of him the last several weeks

Regarding the spare, I also am doing a 5 tire rotation but using the stock trail wheels so scratches don't like too bad haha

Been awhile since I have had a new one.

I have a Tacoma X-Runner, and while I was driving, the cable snapped.
Tire dropped on an angle and almost lifted the rear wheels fully off the ground.

Scared me a little. :flame:

I probably would have dropped a deuce.

Zahman made one of these for me years ago. It has been thoroughly tested over and over. My spare has never been damage or gotten hung up. The bolts have bent, but I can still get them off/on easily when I need my spare. I don't think he is still making them - too bad.
Perfect fit and beveled edges. Looks good to.

I have mine for sale. Excellent condition. $130 local pickup in Burbank/Glendale, CA area. At the time, about 3 years ago, it cost me $195 plus $65 to ship. Going to a rear tire carrier.

Lol. I have been looking a lot lately at different rear bumpers. Aesthetics, weight, cost, etc. I don’t want to remove the rear cross member. The only option I want for the rear bumper is the spare tire carrier. In the meantime, I purchased the BSM that you have and waiting to install them after I get a couple big dents removed.

I was thinking about the Victory 4x4 Blitz for $1559 minus spare tire carrier. Maybe the Nyguen w/o the crossmember removal. CBI? I think it’s heavy. Maybe a DIY weld together one?
Any ideas appreciated.

I’d personally stick to double shear spindle designs and make sure the bumper has side brackets for side impact and bottom impact protection at the wings as bare minimum.

Modularity is what I would also be looking for, and how the latch works.

I’d personally stick to double shear spindle designs and make sure the bumper has side brackets for side impact and bottom impact protection at the wings as bare minimum.

Modularity is what I would also be looking for, and how the latch works.
