Spare Tire Replacement Options

I, like many others on this forum, had my spare tire stolen on my 08 4runner.

According to the dealer, it will cost approximately $1200 to replace everything with OEM parts, only to have it stolen again.

It appears that there is no good solution to preventing someone from stealing the spare, even with the available after-market locks. So, only real viable option I see is to replace the tire with a cheap, non-oem, tire and wheel, but I don't know where to start.

Any thoughts?

Which model do you have?

If you have a SR5, you can get a 16" steel rim from a 4WD or PreRunner Tacoma. For a Sport Edition or Limited (some Limiteds come with bigger front rotors), you'll need to get a 17" steel rim from a FJ Cruiser. I would look on eBay for take offs or forums for the Tacoma and FJ for someone who maybe selling them.

Guys are selling stock rims all the time on the forums for cheap. Look on here in the items for sale as well as on toyota120 and fjcruiser forums.
