spark arrestors

did a couple of searches and didn't find anything on the topic.

i see that a lot of off-road areas require spark arrestors. is this something that might be part of my stock exhaust system or is it an aftermarket addition? or does this only apply to motorcycles and dune buggies, et. al?

Doesn't usually apply to legally registered vehicles. They are more applicable to things like chainsaws, generators, or custom offroad buggies/bikes.

Your muffler and exhaust system provide that function. The idea is that hot gasses and particulates need time and baffling to cool down to below ignition temperatures before being exhausted to the atmosphere, so you don't set the woods on fire. Small engines have very simple, very short exhaust systems, so often don't meet that criteria. Any production automotive exhaust system will.

Now, if you have headers with open pipes on them, that's another matter.
