I ended up getting the NGK Laser Iridiums for $50. I was at 68K miles before the change. The old Densos were all ok but the NGK electrodes were noticeably worn. I noticed a big difference in how smooth my engine runs and acceleration is little bit better afterwards. The results are most likely a bigger result of the condition of the old plug as opposed to the upgrade to iridium plugs.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on plugs at the dealerships. I was told that I had to use the original plugs and replace every 30,000 and the engine wouldn't run right with platinum or iridium plugs. You mentioned the condition of both Denso and NGK plugs. Did you have both in the engine? I just found out mine has NGK in the left bank and Denso in the right bank. The Denso's seem to run hotter. Never heard of mixing brands before.

Corporate contracts or just plain supply usage, but yes all 4 runners here have that (3NGK+3Denso). I dont remember which brand i ended up using but both were in decent shape @ 30,000. Im not changing them untill 100,000 this time (no high altitude driving or towing).

Went with long-life plugs

I just had my V6 plugs changes at my 36k oil change. My repair shop replaced the short-life plugs with compatible 100k Autolites. I have put a couple of thousand miles since, and the vehicle runs great. mileage is bak up, also. I think the OEM plugs at 7-10 bucks each is rerdiculous. The cabin filter change, oil and filter change and the spark plu job wasw $139.00 including parts, as opposed to about $250 at Toyota dealer (stealer).

I just pick up an '05 V6 with 114k miles on it. I don't think the plugs, or much of anything else, has ever been changed. Am I asking for trouble trying to pull the plugs out now? It runs quiet but has some very noticeable lag. I've always done my own, but I can't find any service records for the vehicle and I'm worried about snapping one off inside. Justified and I should take it in or should I just sac up and change them?

Great info in the thread is the reason for a necro.

I would change them if I were you. I changed the plugs on my '04 at around 100k and I know they had not been changed before. I installed the NGK Laser Iridium plugs. They are working well but I can't say the difference was noticeable compared to the OEM plugs they replaced. It was definitely time to change them though.

Someone mentioned above putting a piece of fuel line over the top of the plug and using it to turn the plug when starting it on the thread. I'm a big fan of this technique because it guarantees that you will not get the plug cross-threaded. There is simply no way to cause any damage because the piece of fuel line would twist off the plug first.

Just picked up an 07 Sport Edition with 142k on the clock. First thing was spark plugs on the maintenance list. Was surprised to find Denso's on one bank and NGK's on the other. As suggested by this thread, it led me to believe these are still the originals and have never been swapped out. They look a little white on the tips, but nothing too bad.

Passenger side removal/install was a breeze. Driver's side was a bit more tedious, but remove a few hoses and clips and it's doable.

$18.00 for 6 OEM Denso's after NAPA coupon. Don't know why you wouldn't change them out on a regular basis being this cheap.
