Spark plugs HELP did I screw up?

I have an 04 4Runner v6 with 72000 miles. I changed the plugs for the first time Labor Day. Only plugs I could get were either A C Delco or the Ford brand. Dealer closed. Both the A C and Ford were almost 1/2" shorter on the thread length than the NKG. I saw the computer at two different auto parts stores and they said the A C plugs were correct. Car seems to run OK, but how much compression have I lost as the factory plugs had to go into the combustion chamber and raise the compression due to the additional volume taken up. What would you guys do? I tried to get NKG's, but stealer closed and I am really short on time.

If it were my truck, I would have put the originals back in until you could get the NGK plugs. I would change out the plugs as soon as you can so that you don't have to continue worrying about any possible damage. I am not an expert in any way so I don't know if there was any possible damage.

Thanks Neil, I am not worried about engine damage, evidently the A C Delco and Autolite plugs are replacements for the NGK plugs. I even checked with a 3rd store( NAPA). I was just concerned that the performance would not be as great because of a lower compression.

You Need the long reach plugs. I ordered the "New" E3 plugs and when I got they were about 1/4 of a inch shorter. I sent them back for a refund and got it. Someone at the auto parts stores has gotten bad info and they all followed suite. Napa had the best price on the NGKs, but I had to order them.

Here is a link to the thread I started about the E3s. It looks like all the parts store are listing the plugs for the 3.4L to fit the 4.0L.

Thanks, I am going to get the correct NGK plugs. The truck seems to run OK, but I don't want any damage. It has 72,000 miles and NEVER has had anything go wrong!
