Spark Plugs, Wires, COil Packs

Thought I'd add my $0.02 RE spark plugs, wires, and coil packs.

My 2002 has 144000 miles on the original plug. While my 4Runner has thrown a two CEL codes (P0420 and P0171) neither resulted from a bad plug. On the suggestion of a friend, I decided to change the plugs, wires and coil packs .... I purchased the following at Amazon.com:

Denso 671-6182 Spark Plug Wire Set 1 set
Denso PK16TR11 Double Platinum 6 each
Denso 673-1201 Ignition Coil 3 each
Total was about $283

Note: You don’t need these if you purchase 673-1201
Denso 671-6248 Coil-on Plug Boot

Everything was fairly easy and straight forward. The most difficult plug was #6 (closest the drive driver)

I agree with plugs and wires, but I think it was overkill to replace all 3 coils. JMHO though.

Agree. Most coils will outlive the trucks they are in.

I would never buy from Amazon.com when there's RockAuto.com. Not to advertise for them but they have a huge selection and great prices. I recently bought O2 and A/F sensors from them for $175 shipped. Stealer wanted over twice that and the lowest autoparts store price was $200 for both at Autozone.

Assuming your coil packs are not OEM, just don't throw away your OEM toyota coil packs.

I've never had Rock Auto beat an Amazon price. And I've bought a lot of auto parts.

I'm a Rock Auto fan but ...... even with a discount code Amazon often beats their overall prices. Amazon usually ships free .. Rock Auto does not. And the funny part about all of this is per the Denso folks ... Amazon is NOT an authorized reseller of Denso products .... Concur Denso is OEM for coil packs ...

I probably did not need coil packs for this effort, but I figured since I was in there I'll replace them. For the 11 years and 144000 miles that I've owned my 4Runner this has been the biggest expense thus far ...... I'll keep the old parts in case someone else needs them in northern VA. If your in the area let me know and I'll make you an offer you can't refuse ......

been a while since I've had to buy them but I don't believe the parts numbers you've listed are correct. The front one might be right but I don't remember that being correct for the rear one.

Well, let me see. At one time I was an ASE Master Tech, and I have kept current through the years on the latest tech. I'm pretty sure I knew which sensors I needed.

Nowhere did I say I bought the same sensors as you did.

It has been over a year ago now, so prices might have changed since I bought the following:

Denso 234-4161 $51.87 shipped

Denso 234-4154 $58.00 shipped

After reviewing the invoice, it was $109.87 shipped for both.
