spark plugs

I changed spark plugs in my 04 v-6 the other day and found three Denso plugs on one side, and 3 ngk plugs on the other. Has anyone else run into this?

You could conceivably stick six different manufacturer plugs in the engine, if they all had the same exact specifications. So I would not worry. But yes, someone else here did state your exact findings (three of one type on one side and a different type on the other side)

I work for an automotive supplier and I'm going to take a stab at why we see the two spark plug suppliers in the same engine.

NGK and Denso have a 50/50 supply award for the engine and this is the most efficient way to guarantee this in production. It would be difficult to use Denso's on the line for a while and then alternate in NGK's fairly.

The plugs are put in using automated machinery and one side is always loaded with NGKs and the other side with Denso.

NGKs are better plugs!

Sparkplugs

I have a 99 SR5. I found NGK on the passenger's side and Denso on the driver's side the first time I changed the plugs. I thought the previous owner was lazy since the driver's side plugs are a little harder to get to.

The gap on the NGk's was still around .043, the gap on the Denso's was over .054. The Densos had 73K on them. I think the previous owner was lazy or was taken advantage of by his mechanic.

I just replaced the NGK plugs again after another 30K. The gap was still around .043.
