Check out the Aussie I just installed mine a week ago $313 shipped... Tried it out yesterday and it works like a champ... I tackled a few obstacles that I know would've gave me issue and when my back started to slip I felt the other kick in and it nudged me right over no problem

Where did you order it from

I've run Aussies and Lockwrongs in the past in all my Toy axles. They work fine for a while until the teeth, pins and springs or a combination of those begin to wear out. That will be determined by how strongly you shock load them throughout their life. Run the Spartan. The pins are bigger, stronger and the unit itself is smidge easier to set up IMO. There are a bunch of guys I wheel with that have all switched to Spartans after blowing up Aussies and LockWrongs and have yet to have an issue since making the switch.

Good to know I think if I blow it up I'll replace it with an ARB... I'm just poor ATM and wanted to give it a try

i also just put an aussie in last week to hold me over till i can afford my arb lockers and from all my research more people liked the aussie better and they have a better warranty. ive never done any diff work and it was a breeze to install and functions great.
only time will tell how it holds up.

Oh, wow...I didn't realize we could get lockers for that cheap. I thought it was gonna be a minimum $1,000 unless I found a used elocker axle. Guess this is going on my "to buy" list for the near future.

They are a great bang for the buck and you'll be happy in the long run. If it starts to act funny and ratchet/pop/unlock at random times when you don't think it is supposed to, then the springs and/or pins are probably wearing out. A replacement set of springs and pins is CHEAP (like $25-40) IIRC and easy to swap out once you've done the install yourself. That usually fixes any erratic issues with the Aussies and LR's.

Driving characteristics with these lunchbox lockers though need to be noted. They lock under torque and unlock off throttle in normal driving conditions. So in rain/snow it will light both rear tires up in a heartbeat if you get on it.

Hey man I was wondering if you could look at this write up and let me know how close the Aussie locker is for install??? Here is the link:

Lock-Right install guide

The install is pretty simple and staraight forward. My buddy had a lockright in his taco for 3 years before he had to replace it. He sheared 2 center pins before the locker itself gave out so yes they are strong

Agreed. Stay away from Lockrite, they suck. Aussies are better, but Spartans are cheaper and stronger.

I've been researching this as well as of late. From reading reviews and threads all over the place i'm seeing the same thing. A lot of guys on Pirate are even running the Spartan over the Detroit do to ease of install and affordability. Its alot easier to replace a drop in locker on the trail than a full carrier locker.

I think this is the route I am going to go on my rear 44. Maybe save Kevin a little money too!!!

Actually My dad has run the Lock Right for years in his jeeps and hasn't had a lot of problems. Especially with the smaller motors. The only time he has had any issue was running one in an AMC 20 turned by a 350 chevy with a low gear kit. I don't think my 3.4 will have any issues!!! But haveing said that with Spartans price thats the way to go!!!

Andrew and AJ both just blew up the Lockrites in their front ends. I know Jeep guys like them, maybe it's just the Lockrite design for the Toyota third that sucks, but my Spartan has been kicking ass for a couple years now, with great road manners and no sign of trouble.

I dunno if it's the right call for you though - Spartan says don't go bigger than a 32, and you've got a heavy foot. I still think you should ditch the idea of an automatic and either weld it up or go with a full spool.

You just want me to weld it so you can get my axle cheaper :suspicious: I see how you are!!

I'll pay you what the axle is worth no matter what you do. I'm just trying to help you save money so you can get those tcase gears quicker and I don't have to smell your clutch any more. :flipoff:
