Speaker in my 2nd Gen.

I just bought a '95 4Runner. The speaker on the driver's side sounds busted...when I turn it up about half way the sound is very fuzzy. I don't need any type of fancy sound system...I usually only listen to sports talk radio while I'm driving (I will occasionally play a cd).

My question is can I just replace the speaker? I really have no idea about any of this stuff, but I measured the diameter of the speaker and it was 4inches. Does that sound right? I guess I'm just worried about all of the wiring since I've never done this before.

Also, any good recs on a speaker that would fit my needs?

yes you can just replace a speaker - make sure you get the right one - that is next on my list of stuff to do to my '95 - upgraded sound. you will need to wire the plug. no problem - i've had the cover out several times as it is step one to remove to get to other stuff under the dash.

I am planning to replace entire stereo system in my '94 and am just about to order. I have heard that some 4" speakers may be hard to fit due to the magnet size. I am personally looking at the following:


Rockford Fosgate P142 4" 2-way

Rockford Fosgate P152-S 5 1/4" component (woofers & tweeters) - these will replace the back speakers

Pioneer AVIC-U310BT - new double DIN head unit with bluetooth and GPS

Still deciding on whether to add a 4 channel amp.

If you are not looking for super sound quality, look for a 4" speaker with a smaller magnet - these would likely be the cheaper ones...
