speakers and a sub

hey all. i have a 87 runner, with stock speakers. as i am a teenager, you can see how this poses a problem. i dont know if the runners ack in 87 came with speakers in the back, but i either dont have them, or they arent working. i am going to slam a cd deck in there, but does anyone suggest any kinda speakers? im not sure of the sizing, but they dont have to be amazing quality. just something i can crank and sound ok. i was thinking about eventually throwing a sub in, but im not sure where it would go, as i want to have as much cargo room as possible. any suggestions as to where to stick a sub, amp, what kind of speakers, and do i need any different wiring harness? any sugesstions are appreciated, as i am a newbie to car audio. also, i read some good revies on the bazooka 8" amp/sub combo from futureshop. is it any good? thanks for your time, and hope to see you on the trails....

I'm also trying to figure out what kind of speakers to get...as far as the sub goes, the places I've seen/heard of are getting a box thats made for 4runners that goes behind the passenger side wheelwell, OR customizing and putting the sub in the back compartment with that little cover...I'm thinking about doing something like this...

Hey guys, I too have an '87. Mine has the small quarter windows in the doors. I didn't like this at frst then I realized that I was able to put a good sized speaker in the front of the door as there is no window tracks to deal with. I have a set of orion 6" and a set of tweeters in the front of the doors. Stock locations are not used now but I may use them for the c.b. speaker in the future. I don't know what speakers are in the rear but they are o.k. sound wise. The amp is under the passenger seat for now but it will be moved soon probably to the storage compartment beside the rear seat. There is a 12" sub box in the back ( strapped down) that I move or unplug if I need the space. This works for now until I get time to put the rest of my stuff (sound processer, more amps, better speakers in the rear) in.

so would my 87 runner have rear speakers? either they dont, or mine arent working. i finally got the wiring harness out of my cousins car, as i bought the deck off of him, and am going to install my deck and sub. do i need a faceplate or adapter for a sony x-plod deck to fit in where the radio is? i am going to weld up a extra large compartment out of aluminium with a TIG, and place it where the cassette deck is. do i need an adapter or faceplate i think it is called? where can i get this if warranted?
as my battery is located on the right hand side, is ther any holes in the firewall on the right side> if not, and i have to go through the left side, should i mount the power cable behind or in front of the engine?
thanks Jake Engel

I have an xplode deck in mine. Custom plate that I will be changing at some point. Easy enough to install without an adapter kit as I recall from my previous toy. I will try to get a pic of mine. I would think that you would have rear speakers or at least have a place to put them, Although I don't usually use mine anyway. I will check where I ran the power wire, can't remember right now.

hey to all who are interested, i did manage to wire in the deck and the sub. it wasnt hard, and i am going to post pictures later on. the next day, i took my buddy offroading and the deck is now FUBAR. it wont play cd's :bash: is sounds like its spinning, but not reading. any idea??
