Speakers Cutting Out

I have a 2001 with factory CD/cassette/radio. About a week ago, the speakers started cutting in and out. Everything appears to be working except there is no sound coming out of the any of the speakers. It can be working fine one minute, then suddenly the speakers completely cut out. They may stay out for a few seconds or a few days. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Thanks.

It is not the wiring going to the speakers, but it could be the harness connector. Have you pulled the HU yet to check? If that harness is connected fine then I would say that the HU is going south. If you have an amp then it complicates things.

I pulled the HU and the harness connection looked fine. And yes, this model does have the seperate amp.
