Speakers only work on one side

I don't know when this began but my speakers only work on the driver side. If it matters I've got the 6 speaker package and the tweeter on the pass. door doesn't work either.

Any ideas of what it could be or how to troubleshoot? It's the factory stereo as well and the dash has never been opened up to install or fix anything.

You haven't got the balance set to the right do you? More than likely its either the factory amp or the head unit.

Maybe a stupid question but how do I know if its set to the right? I messed around work the balance knob (its the one around the volume knob if it makes sense to you) but I don't see how someone could set it to the right.

I guess it might be that its a 15 year old stereo anyway even though the head unit works great.

My 97 is behaving the same way. Speakers in the rear are dead. No amount of balance or fade adjustment solves the problem.
I ordered a Kenwood double din unit with blue tooth from Crutchfield. Also added new speakers front and rear to the order. They ship with wiring harness and install kit all for one money. Not bad pricing and a fairly straight forward install for the handy.

what are you using as your source for your music? If your using an ipod with a tape deck or something, check and make sure that not the problem. Mine was driving me nuts i thought i blew my right speakers or screwed up the HU because they kept cutting in and out. ended up being a bad aux cable. Im not sure what your source is but make sure you are using the radio or a CD to check it.

If I recall correctly, the little nub that rotates around the volume knob is the fader (front to back.) When you pull the volume knob outwards it becomes the balance.

Good point. Try a different CD and the radio.

Source of music isn't the problem. I could be using the radio or cd player and it would still only work on one side.

I don't think the volume knob pulls outward.

Here's a pic of the HU I have.

Ok, try pulling the ring around the volume knob outwards. It says "pull bal" at the 5 o clock position. If you havent pulled the dash apart lately then Id say its time to get a new deck. Besides, you dont listen to tapes anymore do you?

Wow, I feel ret@rded. I just looked back at the picture I put and saw what you were talking about.

I'm actually in europe right now and won't be back for a few more days but I forgot to post this thread before. I'll report back. Oh and yeah lmao I never listen to tapes even though theres a few in the console that have been in there for like 14 years hahaha.

I have a 1999 Alpine deck (bought before I had the T4R) that is a 3CD changer and a tape deck hidden behind a big display...I never listen to CDs anymore, so you can imagine the surprise I got recently when I hit the "open" button by mistake. The display dropped down and Iceburg / Freedom of Speech, Just Watch What You Say by Ice-T spit out at me!!

Just an update for Socco, you were right! Fixed it and all is good. :guitar3:

The volume knob came out though. I'll try to find a new HU soon but for now big thanks!
