Special Order Pricing pt2

Hi, Thought I'd create a new thread rather than bring up one that was almost a year old.

I've made the decision to buy a 2007 4runner 4x4 V6. I used Edmonds pricing guide and heard back from a few dealers already. However, it looks like it's going to be a special order as they don't have my model within 500 (or one dealer said 3500) miles from the bay area.

I test drove a 2007 V6 over the weekend, and am pretty sure I won't need the V8. I drove from the SF bay area to Reno and back. The v6 was perfect and about on par with my 2000 JGC I currently have.

Here is what I am looking for:

NV Navigation System w/JBL Synthesis Audio
SR Power Sunroof
GY Side Curtain Airbags
NH X-REAS Shock Absorbers
TO Tow Hitch
RF Rear Spoiler
RL Daytime Running Lights

One dealer already quoted me $500 below MSRP! Damn! I'm hoping the others pricing that I've started communication with aren't as high as this guy. From what a few of you had said already - 250-500 over invoice sounds plenty reasonable. Is this the standard pricing nowadays? I'm willing to wait the 3-6 months to take delivery.

I bought my 2K Jeep Grand Cherokee through carsdirect.com for invoice pricing, so I'm familiar with this process. I'm curious if they would run into the same problems with special ordering.

A Previous poster said to contact Diane at Carson Toyota. Does anyone have any further information working with her, or know of another CA dealer that gives good deals on special ordering?

Btw - nice place you got here. I think I'll stay a while.

Well, I got my Preference order at $500 over invoice + I got to take the discount offered by Toyota at the time ($2,500) so I ended up getting it at $2,000 Under invoice.

;):

All done via the phone, fax, and internet.

:D

$500 below MSRP is an insult. That dealer doesn't want your business. It's amazing the games dealers like to play. :bash:

You should still be less than $1000 over what Edmunds says is invoice (with destination fee). Although your order takes one unit from the dealer's allocation, it's a sure sale that won't even sit on their lot for more than 24 hours. So the manufacturer's holdback, which is normally used to offset the cost of financing while the car is on the lot, is pure profit in this case.

And after you get that price, then you can apply cash or financing incentives. Dealers won't commit to any on paper right now, as you don't know what the incentive will be in the month you take delivery. Since I started watching cash incentives in the Chicago area in March '06, they've ranged from $1000-$1500 on the then-current model year.

Was that me in the other thread? I thought that was a member in the SoCal area in the most recent thread.

If you don't mind the drive, go over to San Francisco Toyota and ask for Cory Ellerbee, Internet manager. His office is located on 3rd Ave and Geary at the used car lot. I got mine special ordered through him. I can provide more specifics if you need.
