special tool for front pulley (timing belt)

I'm looking to do my timing belt and I've read that toyota has a special tool for removing the front crank bolt and a bunch of people have made their own. Does anyone have bolt sizes and dimensions so I can make one myself. I have access to a mig welder but I'd like to make it BEFORE I rip into it.

this is what i made plate wasint 1/2'' though thats really thick o ya when u get the bolt broken loose the pulley just wont fall off gonna need a puller

Here's what I did:

Took some angle steel I had kicking around (1.5" x .125"), drilled two holes in it 3.27" apart. Then bought some long (~4") 3/8" grade 8 bolts at the hardware store. With the bolts being so long you can fit a 1/2" ratchet and socket between the crank pulley and the angle steel. Plus it saves having to drill the larger hole in the steel.

It worked well, the bolts and angle got slightly tweaked during removable and reassembly, but it worked none the less.

Elton's got the best I have seen

I believe there is a thread on this over on Yota Tech with pics of Elton's invention. It's the best I have seen. Some folks have even used very strong solid wood to accomplish same thing.

I say again someone could make some money selling such items. Make up 5 or 10 and over time they would sell like hotcakes.

The essence of the idea is same as a steering wheel puller. Those are loaned out at the major auto chains. You may find most of the pieces you need contained in such a kit.

And while you need long bolts to extend into the pulley's holes-do not run the bolts too far into the pulley-leave clearance behind the pulley. Learned that with the homemade version my son and I fabbed up for our MR2 crankshaft pulley removal.
