Specs on OTR Lock Nut?

Hey everyone,
Have a bit of a conundrum. So, while changing out my LBJ, OTR, ITR, I found the Lock Nut on the OTR (where it connects to the ITR) was frozen on both of them. I ended up having to remove the ITR on the passenger side, and had to cut it in half with a grinder to get the boot off.

Now here's my problem - when re-assembling, I found out the OEM OTR doesn't come with that Lock Nut (or at least the ones I purchased from Camelback Toyota - considering I had a great experience, I think it's more likely that it doesn't come with them). My car is sitting in my friend's driveway - need to get it out of there today. No dealership within 300 miles has more than 1 - I need 2.

I know that it's a 27mm lock nut, but other than that, any other specs that can help me to get the right part?

Go to hardware store and get a nut that fits. Im guessing your talking about the nut that allows a cotter pin to fit? Either way this will get you by till you can get the OEM nut.

What he said. If you want to feel better about it then put a small (emphasis on the small) dab of blu locktite on it which will hold it until you get the correct one in.

I'm pretty sure where I did mine they came with both those nuts (both shiny in the photo), but I didn't use OEM parts for the OTR so that could be the difference.

You might source those at Napa or Autozone, but because of the size and thread pitch on the inner lock nut I'd say it's a long shot.

I was actually talking about the other end, where the outer tie rod connects to the inner tie rod - the lock nut, not the castle nut (which connects to the LBJ). I'm wondering if I can pick up a part at Fastenal (which deals with fasteners exclusively) or if I absolutely need the factory part - this is the bolt that you twist into place to get your alignment. I looked up some kits online and they all seem to have the lock nut... for reference, the part number is 90170-20003. None of the dealerships I called were able, or maybe willing, to help me out.

Yep, the one on the inside - I tore up all of the packaging they sent me looking to make sure that it didn't come with one. Castle nuts, cotter pins, yep - the massive locknut that you can't really source anywhere? Nope.

I went back and looked at the Rock Auto order for mine, and the nut comes with the ITRs, and not the outters. Which is strange IMO.

Yeah I checked my inners too, just in case - had the washer, but no lock nut.

Let me see if I can get the OEM part number this evening. Mine were trash and the outer tie rods (since not everyone knows what OTR is) do not come with the locknuts.

I posted the OEM part number earlier: 90170-20003. It looks like I'm just going to have to wait a few days and get the dealer part. Wouldn't be a huge issue if I wasn't in my buddy's driveway instead of my own. Thanks guys and, if anyone has any ideas in the meantime, give me a shout.

Haven't been able to verify, but I believe these lock/jam nuts are M20x1.5, and apparently made with unobtainium.

M20x2.5 are everywhere, and widely available of course.

I also had to replace an OTR just a couple weeks ago and the lock nut was frozen. If you have access to a torch, get that bastard red hot and keep working it back and forth. I was able to get mine off the old damaged OTR and use it on the new one.

My OTR that I bought from Autozone did not come with the nut either, only the ITR comes with a replacement nut which seems backwards if you ask me...

Did you try heating the shit out of the OTRE and getting the nut off?

Confirmed, it's M20x1.5 (fine) thread pitch.

My buddy didn't want to wait for toyota to order them in, so he went to a local machine shop and had them whip up a set.
