Speed/Sensor wires for 2005 Sol Nav Install

Hi,

I am new to the forum, but have been reading for quite some time. I have a 2003 4runner Sport with the 10 speaker JBL system and just received the solara nav from oemvalue.

They were out of speed/rev sensor wires. I was wondering if anybody knew where I could get these or what you would need to make one.

Also, would the navigation work without them? I know you might lose the signal in tunnels or parking garages, but will it be able to give voice directions through the external speaker and have all it's other capabilities without the speed sensor connected?

They were out of the wires, or they just didn't supply you with the connector?

If it's just the connector you're missing, that's not a problem. You can attach the wire to the correct pin and it will work fine. If they didn't give you either of the two wires (speed sensor or reverse sensor), you will have to pick up some wire and make your own. I believe I used 18 gauge wire for my reverse sensor and speed sensor wires.

Your nav system will work without these hooked up, but it won't work properly. You will not get turn-by-turn voice directions. As you alread said, you'll lose the satellite signal in tunnels and lose the tracking. It will pick up once satellite signal is restored. Also, when you reverse, the vehicle icon will "flip" because the navi will think you are facing the wrong directions.

Do yourself a favor and don't install your navi without hooking up those two important wires.... if you do, I can just about guarantee that you'll be ripping everything apart again to hook them up later.

You can find the wire at any Radio Shack. You'll also need to find two, small female pin connectors that will slide onto the male pins in the back of your navigation system.

If you need any help or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Several members (including myself) have already been through the installation process. It's fairly simple and the system works well when installed correctly.

Hitman, thanks for all the info. The Nav only came with the antenna and it's extension wires. I emailed Troy from oemvalue and he said they were out of them. I guess I'll be waiting until I get everything together before the install so that I don't have to rip apart the dash that many times.

As for the extra speaker for the voice navigation, does anybody have any suggestions on what will work. Do those amplified speakers from Radio Shack require a power inverter, or can they be directly connected to a 12V source (like the cigarette lighter). I found some external nav speakers from Alpine that are compatible with some of their nav systems. Anyone looked into these for the external speaker?

Boaz, I prob won't be getting around to an install for another month, but I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Hey guys, I'm finally going to get around to installing the nav this week . I am having a hard time finding the correct connectors for the speed/reverse sensor wires. Since they weren't included from oemvalue, I need to find some way of connecting wires to the two pins on the back of the nav. I've been to radio shack and couldn't find the correct pin connectors to use. I also tried taking the cd audio cables from a pc, but those were too small for the pins.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to connect these wires to the back of the nav. I haven't soldered any wires before and the pins are is such a small area, I think that will have to be my last resort.

Dude, I wouldn't solder those wires. Just go to Radio Shack or similar place and get the connectors....Cost you a few cents...

Do a search on this forum. There are a bunch of threads on NAV install, where to hook up wires, what speaker to get for the voice, etc....You will find a wealth of info....

I was lucky to find hidden away in a closet, an old car radio harness for rca hookup for my wifes saturn. Using a utility knife as a "scalpal" I performed surgery to remove the metal pin and the attached wire. I was lucky to find it laying around (I never throw away anything that might be useful later). You could go to an auto parts store and buy a cheap harness, just be sure to find one that has small female pins.
