Some background:
I decided to go with the narrower tire for winter. Theoretically, narrower tires are better for cutting throw snow and slush.
I was told to go stock tire by one shop. Warnings about ABS failure and speedo error, etc.
But when I checked online tire calculators, the difference in diameter between 245/75-16 and 265/70-16 was 0.1 inch. So I went with the 245s and got them installed at a shop that actually recommended them for winter.
Today, I tested the speedo error using a handheld GPS. I'd say it's about a 2-4% error. My speedo shows 100 but I'm actually going 96-98. Whoop-dee-do.
So, if you're thinking of winter tires and it's not too late, go for the narrow ones guys.
