Speedometer not working - '04 2wd V6 SR5

Ok, the speedometer quit working this morning without warning. Later in the afternoon it moved but would read 90 mph when you were doing 60 mph or 20 mph when you were stopped at a light. The truck has 59k on it so the warranty is long since gone. Has anyone had experience with this? Any suggestions for repair? Speed sensor? I'd rather not have to take it in the shop. Thanks in advance!!

I had this happen not too long ago. Except I had VSC/TRAC and ABS lights on and the CEL. It was speed sensor A. But I did a fast u-turn and the speedo went back to normal. I also added brake fluid and the VSC/TRAC and ABS light went off. Just a little insight

Is there just one speed sensor on the tranny or is it one at the wheels? I don't have any CEL or other lights lit up so I doubt a computer scan will be much help.

I'm pretty sure there is one on the tranny, and one on the tires.

That's right, the tranny has one, and each wheel has one also that's linked to the ABS and stability control systems. They are probably located in the hub, but don't quote me on that. Have you installed new wheels or tires by chance? Could be a stupid question as new shoes would not mess it up that bad, but maybe the new shoes messed up the calibration?
Good luck with the problem, keep us posted.
