Well i got a 89 4runner, and its in great condition except for a few small things, one of which is the fact that the speedometer doesnt work too great. The needle is dropped way below zero, and it will still move as i increase speed, it just really never gets above 0. So yeah, the needle points way below zero and still moves, i just cant tell hoiw fast im going. So what could be wrong and how could i fix it?

You probably have a bad cluster. I'm pretty sure that it is cable driven so I'm guessing that its just stripped the spline on the cluster. I'd go to the junk yard find an 89 of older cluster and swap it and see what happens. I know that the u-pull it here is 20 for any cluster. Good luck!

You might consider disconnecting the cable from the back of the cluster to see if it spins while the car is moving. The typical wear items with these are the cables.

Just FYI, here is a pic of the old style(left,16mm, plated metal/plastic) and new style(right,, 19mm, large white plastic end) speedo cable ends. If you need a cable, and buy a new one, the new style end will not work with the old speedo head in the cluster. The speedometer will need to be updated to the MY92- version. Hope this helps.
