Spelling out Phone #'s..WTF

Ok I have a rant here. I look on C list alot for cars/parts and have noticed a trend that is bugging the crap out of me. Every other post I open has the contact phone number half numbers, and half spelled out numbers. Like this:

(951) two three 4 seven 27 or Eight 1 5 nine 427

Why is this happening. Is this the "cool" thing to do nowadays or what. Can't really explain why it bugs me so much but it makes me want to punch babbies when I see it.If I was trying to sell my item I wouldn't make my phone number look like some puzzle for a ret@rd to decode. Thoughts?

I think they do it that way so spammers can't read it or so you know that it's not spam? Or something like that lol

That would be my guess, since some people put their email address: me<at>email<dot>com. Most likely it's to keep bots from scanning for phone numbers, since telemarketing is nearly dead.

I was told it was so search engines could not snatch up you phone number as easy.
