spidertrax only in the rear wheels

spidertrax only on the rear wheels?

Has anyone put spidertrax wheel spacers only on the rear wheels. Are there any problems with only widening the rear stance? Will it look odd? Just curious.

here are some shots of AP 1.5 wheel spacers on the rear only. had issues with rubbing on the front so i took off the fronts and left the rears. i eventually took off the rears and sold them.

I have a somewhat related question. I do like the wider stance look of wheel spacers. However it looks like they may put the tire from right at the outside edge to slightly outside the mud flap. Do wheel spacers lead to more mud flying up and past the sides of the vehicle ?

I thought of this as well, but when I posted it on Toyota120, response I got was not to do it, cause the fronts are supposed to be wider than rears. Not really sure why. Any pros wanna chime in?

the did rub alot but because i have rims from a 2000 on it. i did however move the fender liner forward about 2" and cut a piece off of the bottom of the fender. it still rubs a hair on the mud flap but i am just too lazy to take them off. it only rubs now if the suspension is compressed in a SHARP turn. rides great with no complaints.

I'll take a stab at it... These are a few random semi-thought-out guesses.

- Consider the source; by that I mean an awesome 4Runner board with a focus on off-road. IMHO there may be some consideration given to "if the front fits, so should the back". In rocky trail scenario it seems to me a wider rear track might translate to more gashed sidewalls etc.

- If the rear was substantially wider (downright extreme)I can see how in a sliding situation it may be more likely to flip than if the tracks were reversed (wide in front). I could also argue that a slight difference like you are considering may help stabilize the vehicle. It's a toss up in my mind when you're talking about 1.25"-1.5" spacers. There's plenty of Beemers, Porsche's etc that are wider in than back.

- The final thing I can think of is rain. Depending on many factors the spray off the fronts may promote hydroplaning.

You asked "why not?" I have thought about and would gladly put just Spidertrax rears on mine. I am not super motivated but if they fell into my lap I'd try it in a heartbeat.

This was the response I was waiting for. Thx for looking out. I've had my spidertrax sitting in the box for months. I might now just put on the rears

from what i was led to believe for years is the difference in trac width is for traction purposes. this is really noticable in older chevy blazers.their front is noticably wider in the front. its supposed to provide better traction because the rears are offset from tracking in the same tire track as the front giving the rear tires fresh surface to get traction in. now true or not that is what was explained to me years ago.

Has anyone ever seen the Smart Fortwo? I just looked and the track width in the rear is 4" wider than the fronts (50.5" vs. 54.5"). I am not comparing a 4Runner to a Fortwo but I would think that the wider rears would lead to better stability.
