Spidertrax spacer pics here...

OK...so the last of my initial mods has been completed: added the 1.25" spidertrax wheel spacers ("adapters") which was a piece of cake and makes the stance look sooooo much better. When researching a lot of people wanted pics, but there wasn't much to go by. So...as I did when I installed the 2/1.5 toytec lift...here are some shots of the spacers. Enjoy and hope this helps. Drive feels great and performed well at the outer banks last week.

Looks good!

If my math is correct, your wheel placement should be similar to a 8.75" wide rim with a 4.5" backspace.

Any rubbing?

Yes...there is some rubbing. I had already moved my front fenders forward about 1 inch...I am going to push those forward a bit more to be safe. The major rubbing in on a small plastic piece on the back side - I believe I can remove this piece, but if not...might have to use the heat gun to flatten or trim.

looks great! how's the ride quality compared to stock? I added some bilstein 5100 on my tacoma at 1.25 up front and my ride dramatically changed. After returning to stock before trading it in for the 4runner, I was quickly reminded how nice the stock ride was. I am hesitant on lifting the 4runner, I am impressed with the stock ride quality, I still have the bilstein 5100 from my tacoma but I have yet pulled to trigger on installing them on the 4runner.

Well, the ride quality is a little stiffer after installing spacers, but not by much. Eventually I will get new shocks, etc to smooth that out. The wider stance actually gives me MORE confidence when turning...doesn't feel so top-heavy anymore. The spacers definitely makes the new 4runner look better...like it should look. Kind of like how the older models looked and even the landcruisers.

how did you move the front fender liner forward on a sr5.. i thought only TE can have it moved..

did you heat gun?

Thanks alot.

I just ordered a set of Spidertrax for mine and now my wife is mad at me ("what did you order NOW?"). I told her it was your fault for posting the pics.

Now you will have to live with the guilt!! :)

Silversx- there is a great writeup by Harper7 on the modifications, etc link on the main page of this forum at the top. You basically unscrew the two bottom screws of the liner...push the liner forward...make a new hole with a knife or drill...line up the screw thread to the new hole and tighten. Pretty easy - just get under the truck and look at it...push a few things and you should easily see what I am talking about.

Antman - hahaha...my wife said the same thing when I got these! I hope I can go 6 months without another mod but fat chance!

oh i know about that harper thread.. but it's for a TE bumper.. the SR5 bumper can't be moved up as there's no screws that can be unscrewed..

did you have to remove the black plastic piece under the bumper first?

I have the SR5 and it worked like a charm... Didn't touch the bumper, just the fender. I will take a pic and post tomorrow.

Spidertrax wheel "adapters" are hub-centric and if you check what everyone else has on their 4runners, majority (if not all) have spidertrax. Very good quality. I have not heard of the other option...and did quite a bit of research before installing...so that might be a tell regarding quality (or lack of). They are cheaper...but when it comes to something like this, I would always spend the extra $ to ensure a quality product. You do not want a wheel flying off!

Love the look of these, but wheel spacers scare me. I've heard about studs shearing under normal use - adding leverage with a spacer and extension bolts would worry me. A failure of this part would be catastrophic.

But it does look cool.

I know in the past that was an issue, but so far so good regarding reviews on spidertrax spacers. I will keep an eye on them every so often to ensure durability!

A ton of wheel spacer, spidertrax, bora, lug nut, stud length info out there and lots of pics but I couldn’t find any side by sides. So I took some after my install of my 1.25” spidertrax.

Install was fine, a good torque wrench, a clever way to hold the brake rotor for torquing (I jammed a screw driver into the rotor fins), a little sweat jacking the truck up and you have yourself a more “full” look.

I found my stock lug nuts to be 21mm. The lugs for spidertrax are 19mm. Red loctite is included. The factory stud length was long enough for both the front and rear. The front had a little less stud through the nut but easily 2-3 threads excess. Plenty.

Remove the wheel, clean the Mounting surface of the wheel and the brake rotor, dab some red goo on the factory lugs. Mount the spacer. I torqued the spacer lug nuts at 45ft pounds and then at 85, checked twice. Mount the rim, I torqued the factory lug nuts to 85ft pounds, checked twice.

I have the TRD Pro SEMA Rims with 265/70 duratracks that are coming to the downward slope of their service life. I now also have rubbing with this combo on the front mudflap due to the spacers. Zero issues on the highway from 40-80mph. I haven’t pulled the rims off and rechecked because I’ve only put about 35 miles on them since install. I may report back if anything is notable but if you don’t hear from me assume all is good.

If I were to do it again I woulda held out for 1.5” but even the 1.25 makes it look way better. Here is a side by side I said I would give you.

Update:

Took off the rear spidertrax and swapped in 1.5” from Wheel Adapters USA. I’m happy with the stance. No performance issues.

A few months later had my tires balanced and rotated by the local firestone. I told them not to hammer the lugs on and to keep it at 85ftlbs. When I got home I checked them and they were all good.

Next oil change should be about March 2020 so I’ll check the torque etc.
