Spidertrax Wheel Spacers Installed

The wife got me some new toys for Christmas! Installed the http://www.spidertrax.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.169/.f this afternoon and they make a very nice (but subtle) difference in the look. Also extremely easy to install - about as difficult as rotating the tires.

Speaking of tires, the BFGs come in this week (every place was on back order). Once I get those on I'll really be in business!

Anyways - here's the before & after pics:

Before the spacers, the tires are hidden, tucked away unassumingly inside the wheel wells. After the spacers, the tires are much more visible and the stance looks more aggresive. Only 1" change but it makes a big difference.

was the main goal to improve looks or were there other criteria?

I've never trusted spacers and would have went with 8" rims personally, BUT they do make a nice but subtle look.

It will look nice with the BFG's .... no doubt !!!
 
The main goal is simply looks. Though a wider stance does have some benefit in terms of stability.

Perhaps wider rims would be a better choice but they don't come cheap.

OK - here's the finished product:
* Cornfed 3" Lift ($250)
* SpiderTrax 1" Wheel Spacers ($200)
* BFG A/T 265/75/16 Tires ($750)

I'm very happy with the results...

The front tires rub a tiny bit on the inside of the mudflaps at full crank so I'll probably trim them a tiny bit. Other than that, everything fits toghether nicely.
 
I like how it looks! I was kind of noticing that the stance was a lil on the less agressive side and i think this might cure that!

I'm lookin for another mod... and this has caught my interest.

Whats the story on these? Ive checked out the spydertrax site and it seems like they are good quality for 100 bucks for a set of 2 spacers. I also checked on ebay, and there are spacers for 56 bucks for a set. Both are made out of 6061 Billet Aluminum, but im kind of scared that if i go with the ones on ebay my wheels will fall off. Am i being paranoid?

On one hand it seems that Spydertrax is just overpriced, but on the other hand... they're my wheels and i dont want them to fall off as im going around a turn. (I'm a student, so the extra 100 kind of matters)

So my question is, is it safe to go with the ones on ebay or should I pony up the extra 100 for the Spydertrax?

Tough call. I don't think the Spidertrax are overpriced. $100 a pair seems to be similar to what other comparable spacers are going for. Also comparable to the cost of a spacer lift kit.

Wheel spacers seem to have a somewhat sketchy reputation with some folks and quality is obviously extremely important because they're what holds your wheels on your rig. Any kind of failure of the spacer would be a pretty serious problem. For me, I'd say it's worth spending the extra dough for the best you can find.


That being said, there's no reason to assume that the stuff on Ebay is junk. If it's made of the same material (and nuts & bolts are all hardened similarly) then it should be of comparable quantity. I typically expect to pay 30% less for comparable stuff bought from Ebay. However the old addage still applies - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

You said in your original post you have 1" spacers, but the link goes to a page with two options 1.25" or 1.5" spacers. Are yours really 1"? If they are... where did you get them?

Also, this goes for anyone, the link has the WHS-005 and WHS-007. The 005 say they are hub centric where as the 007 say they are Wheel and Hub centic. What does that mean? Which one fits our Runners?

And finally, would 1.5" spacers be too much? Would they still fit? Would they be pushed out too much and look goofy? i can't imagine another .5" could make a huge difference, but the one inch spacers you have sure did!

I guess mine are probably the 1.25" ones. I'm not sure what "hub centric" vs "wheel & hub centric" means, but the WHS-007 ones say they're for late model Toyotas (which yours is).

If all else fails, you could always <a href="http://www.spidertrax.com/s.nl/sc.5/.f"> contact them</A> and ask.
