I'm new to this forum and T4Rs in general. I have an 08 SR5 that i just bought and have been picking through as much info on this forum as I can. The one item that grab my attention was the discussions on Toyota's WS (lifetime - per the dealer in my town) transmission fluid. I had previously installed remote spin on oil filters for other vehicles (99 Ford 250 Diesel, 03 Chevy 1500HD) with auto transmissions and this seemed to be a cheap way of protecting the transmissions.
That's what I did today on the SR5 and it went very well. For about $35.00 I got the filter mount, filter, hose, clamps and fittings. I mounted it on the passenger frame rail between the fan shroud and sway bar. The return line from the cooler is right there so it was very easy. I lost less then a pint of fluid. The car has 53,000 miles on it and the fluid looked and smelled perfectly.
Based on the other trucks the filter should be good for at least 50,000 miles. It also allows a great check method to check the condition of the tranny fluid.
