Spongy brakes on 89 runner

Picked up a runner last night.


Brakes work great as far as getting the thing stopped but pedal seems a little squishy for me.

Signs of the master cylinder going bad but Im sure it may need new lines too.


Is there anywhere I can get steel braided lines for a stock 89 4runner for a reasonable price?

Many of the websites sell them however: Marlin, LCEngineering, etc.

I wanted mine longer than stock but not as long as most of the aftermarket ones. Paragon makes them to order (same day) and you can specify the length.

If you change the master cylinder, you might want to upgrade to one of these:

Again, if you don't mind them being a bit long, then you can order the stainless lines from Marlin at the same time.

Awesome I'll order some from paragon performance. I actually helped then develop the lines for the 71-81 celicas.

Shouldve looked to them earlier.

If you haven't already done so, have you flushed and replaced the brake fluid? The brake fluid may just be old, it should be a cheap and quick thing to do.

Try flushing the system and bleed everything well before buying and replacing anything.

definatly bleed your brakes. typicaly, if its has a spongy feel to it, then air is trapped and needs to be let out. see if thats not the problem before you go and drop some coin on a new braking system..
