Sporadic Alarm "Chirp"

I just bought my '97 Limited a little over a month ago and when I bought it the previous owner didn't have a keyless entry remote. Being a Limited it has the factory alarm. I ordered a remote and programmed it and it works fine as far as locking/unlocking but sometimes it chirps and sometimes it doesn't. It always locks/unlocks the vehicle but the chirp might work once or twice then not for a the next time or next ten times. Does anybody have a clue?

Mine does the same thing. I'm sure it's a setting, but it has never bothered me enough to look into it further.

Thats funny mines doing the same thing. It will chirp the majority of the time but once in a while won't. I have no idea whats wrong. Battery going out?

I highly doubt it's the battery because I replaced mine less than six months ago.

No, The unit it self does it, its on the fender of the passenger side under the hood, i hear it doesnt really mean anything.

I have the same exact problem. When it chirps I'm happy but when it doesn't I'm sad lol. And it not the battery because I changed mine about a month ago.

That's weird. Mine doesn't chirp at all, and it's the factory remote/system that I'm using. :shrug:

Mine doesn't chirp either, I was parked next to another t4r at the store and his chirped....kinda jealous.

Mine chirps all of the time but I installed an aftermarket Python alarm because the factory unit was not working. I do sort of get that warm fuzzy feeling when she chirps for me...

On my 01 Tacoma, I read that the chirping meant something set off the alarm. One time I was playing football and the ball hit the hood hard enough to set it off. I didn't have my keys close enough to stop it, so it just ran for about 30 sec. The next time I unlocked it, I heard the chirping. But I only heard it about 3 or 4 times in the 6 years I owned the truck. I've probably heard it 10 times in less than 2 years on my 4Runner. I'm hoping that doesn't mean the alarm keeps going off.
