I'm still on the learning curve with this engine and set up, got a few questions and concerns that might be normal, might not be. Again, coming from the old LS, I understand there is going to be a difference in many things that I have to adjust to "not a bad thing either".
I have an 05' V8 with 51k miles, just bought it. This is my first Toyota with the drive-by-wire throttle, and I'm not a big fan to be honest. I much prefer the old-school cable. But no biggie.
However, I've noticed around the 40-50mph range the power seems to drop when applying normal acceleration, and it feels a little jerky when I stomp on it, like the ac coming on and off and on and off. I also had a couple stumbles at idle after buying the car. Figured probably a little water in the tank from sitting on the car lot for a few weeks. But I'm wondering if it's time for some new spark plugs? I can tell you that the previous owner did not maintain the car very well with fluids and filters. The air filter was DUE for replacement, as was the interior ac filter. I've run a can of Seafoam through the tank, no real difference noticed, except no more stumbles at idle. So is 50k a typical time to replace plugs? Or any suggestions or tweaks you guys do to that electronic throttle setting as the car ages?
Second, I am feeling vibration through the wheel, gas peddle and car in general around the 50mph mark when the car kicks down into cruise-gear. like an exhaust rummbling or worn mount "engine or tranny?" I think this just might be normal though, mounts usually aren't mileage sensitive, but more age sensitive. I also read that I don't have that EGR set up either, so that might have something to do with it. But do you guys with the V8's have this too? I do have that chrome exhaust option, whatever that does??
Third, when I changed the air filter, I noticed a white looking bag-type mesh screening on the top portion of the filter cannister. What is that? And does it need to be cleaned?
I'm averaging about 18-19mpg, with I would say 60% highway.
And lastly, at what point do mounts and bushings tend to start showing wear and need of attention? Stuff like strut rods, rear carriers, etc...
I'm really looking forward to getting off pavement soon...just haven't had the time, and a bit too gun-shy to do it just yet.
Thanks all!
PS: can some please correct my 1st grade spelling of sporaDic in the thread's title? It's been a very very long day...
