Sport Edition Driver Seat

I have a frustrating problem and I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I have a 04 SR5 Sport Edition and the driver's seat clicks forward and backwards as I slow down and speed up or even move around in the seat. I took it to to one dealership and they told me that while they had heard of this, there was nothing they could do as Toyota does not deem it a big enough problem. I took it to another dealership and they replaced the entire seat. It was fixed for about 1000 miles and then slowly became the same as the original seat with the movement. Does anyone else have this probelem? Also, can you buy the Limited power leater seats? I have sat on those and they do not move at all.

I have the same problem...however my clicks when I go around a corner quick. I have the same problem with my Z, however there is a TSB for the Z. I believe they put a washer on a bolt that fixes the Z seat. :(
 
Mega-common problem! It has to do with the mechanics of the seat adjustments (a design flaw) and apparently there is no simple fix for these particualr seats. Replacing the seat with another identically-designed seat is obviously a temporary fix. Ours has started to pop now as well, at 5000 miles.
 
seat pop

I drive with my left leg semi-bent with my foot resting flatly on the middle-left of the drivers floorboard. Whenever I apply the brakes, I can feel a 'pop' under my foot in the floorboard area.

When I am standing outside the vehicle I can grasp the seat cushion and the front(lumbar) area can gravitate up and down. The 'pop' is coming from under the floorboard area though, seat rail maybe?

I know it will never be fixed by my dealer, as they are of the mold of 'cannot reproduce at this time' mentality.

Is this 'pop' similar to what you describe?
 
Yup, I've developed this problem too. I didn't notice at first but once I did, it's become intolerable. I'm taking it in at my 10k service to have them look at it and fix. If they fix it and it comes back, i'm going to have them fix it again and again until they get it right. I have the 7years/100k warranty, so they can replace it until then. If it isn't permanently fixed after that, I'll just get an aftermarket (sparco) seat :cool:

Things to get fixed at next checkup:

Driver's Seat
Sulfur TSB
Lube the sunroof (Sounds like it is "sticking" when it tilts up)

In our case, there doesn't really seem to be a lot of movement in the seat at all, but just enough of a "pop" that it can definitely be felt through the seat. Usually it will happen when turning a corner, stopping, taking off etc, but not every time consistently. I can't really make it happen by rocking around in the seat, either. It could be in the rails, or in some mechanical part of the seat. It's just a minor annoyance so far, but I hope it doesn't get worse!

TSB? What is that? Besides the seat, I love the 4Runner. I was very close to buying a Titanium V8 Sport, but I use it for work (Sales) and I didn't want the extra gas that V8's like!!

There's a thread about this issue in the Problems & Warranty section, also.

As for buying the power seat, you could. You'll have to add in the wiring, and probably have to change the seat rails. I've seen it done on other cars, don't see why it can't be done on the 4Runner.
 
Is this for power seats?

Is this a power seat in the drivers side, or is it a manual adjusted seat? Is it factory leather or cloth? I have read about this problem as being common, but my factory leather power seats haven't display this problem. Also I only weigh 160 lbs. I'm wondering if this will end up being a nuisance item on my truck.
I was free of most defects for 12,000 miles, but recently I had to have the TSB for the sunroof done, and it's quiet now. Also they had to turn the front rotors for brake pulsation under light pedal pressure, under warranty.

Not a problem with the power seats, only the manual seats.

It is either SR-5 or Sports Edition, can't be both. Please clearify.
 
i have an '03 and have this seat popping/moving problem as well. maybe if we look into it further, we could figure out a way to fix it ...
 
Same seat problem. Also, what is the TSB for the sunroof please? Is there a web page that lists the TSB's?? Thanx

MANY 4runner owners witht he sunroof have experienced this. The sunroof begins to make intermittent rattles, sometimes quiet, sometimes annoying. Comes and goes whenever it pleases. Mine got progressively worse. It was just annoying. The rods that control the automatic air deflector raising and lowering are VERY close to the rails for the sunroof slider. They start rattling against each other. What the service dept did is install a kit which is two pieces or plastic tubing which slide over the rods. It quieted my sunroof and hasn't made noise in almost two weeks.
