"Sport Edition?"

I am looking at a 1999 4Runner. It has the hood scoop, but no running boards. It also has the fender mouldings and mud flaps. Can someone tell me what the Sport options include. I didn't see any "sport" labeling on it at all. Thanks for your help.

If it's a 1999, that package is called the Highlander Package. Came with a hood scoop, black plastic fender trim, and a couple other things. In 2000, the same package was renamed to the Sport Package. And then from 2001-2002, the Sport Edition was produced.

Thanks for that info. This 4Runner has a dent in the rear quarter, but I think I can get it repaired and still do OK on it. I can purchase it,repair it and still have less than 4K invested. I wonder what the other Highlander options were other than the scoop and fender trim? Anyone?
Would the Carfax state that it is a "Highlander" edition?

The VIN should tell you that it's a Highlander. To some/most of the people on this forum, the msot "coveted" 3rd generation is arguably the 1999 4Runner with the Highlander package, 4WD, a 5-speed (not my cup of tea), '99-specific "tall" springs, and the rear locking differential. I think you'll be able to tell the difference between a slushbox and a manual, but to tell if you have the rear locker, check the dash cutout between the gauge dimmer and the steering column. If you've got a button with "RR DIFF LOCK" in orange on it, you'll have a step up on the offroading scene.

Yep, that's exactly what I want. Sadly, I'll never be able to get one cause it wasn't available in Canada.

'99 and '00 are the only years of 4Runners to be connected to the Highlander moniker and only appears on paperwork but no official badging. My insurance card even calls it a sport and only the '02 model had actual badging calling it a Sport Edition and came with it's own version of the faux skidplate.
