Sport Hood

My Limited comes with standard hood. I like the one from Sport with a hood scoop. Does anyone install it on Limited? Is it possible to exchange it at dealer? I called parts department and was told that new "sport hood" is $900.

:p Yep,that's the perfect analogy. I had a guy offer to trade my scooped hood for his plus $500 and I still turned him down;I sold my '97 to upgrade to a '99 Sport and the scoop was part of the attraction plus it has the rear locker.
 
Believe it or not, there are people who would rather have the regular SR5/Limited hoods over the Sports Hood (Why? I have the slightest idea) but I've seen WTB/swap posts in the classifieds on this forum. You may want to try running a search.

I'm one of those. If I had an SE I would trade away the hood, and make a killing of a profit on such a hot item (to pay for all my mods), if for no other reason than the safety factor. Why would I want a scoop that is a giant bug catcher and impairs my visibility (according to C&D magazine)???....
Hahahaahaaaa.... yeah right!

On a more serious note. Maybe wait a few years until one becomes available in a boneyard from a wreck. There's bound to be one show up considering how wild all those SE drivers are.

I'm going to be picking up a 05 LTD 4x4 soon (I hope :( ) and I've been playing with the idea of replacing the standard hood with one from a Sport.

It this something anyone has Actually done, or just thought about?

I do remember a picture posted here that should what was believed to be a LTD with a Sport hood.
 
When I 1st got my SE, I didn't really want the scoop. But now have grown to like it!

I do wonder about air drag on that thing though! Think it translates into much lost of MPG?

I doubt it anything measurable in the real world vs the scoopless since I get pretty much the same as plenty of scoopless Runners.
 
I talked to my dealer. He wants $700Cdn + paint and installation ~$200Cdn =$900Cdn. He also will trade my in for $100Cdn. After some time in the Senior Service Manager and Senior Parts Manager I was able to get a 20% discount on a new hood.
So it's going to be: $700+$200-20%=$720-$100=$620Cdn+Tax=$713Cdn.
Is it worth it?

Udated: $700-20%+$200=$760-$100=$660+Tax=$759Cdn ($635US)

I don't think a scoop is worth that much. I would hold out for a trade by just posting for a trade every once in a while. It's been done before by people on this board I'm pretty sure.

Yep, Whenever I'm shopping, I always look around the parking lot for SE's the same color as my Limited.

Hoping to see the owner, and startup a conversation. Hoping he say's 'I just wish I didn't have this scoop :)

I have the tools ready (lol)
