I will eventually get the sport hood purely for aesthetics on my '96 SR5, and there are basically only two options: OEM from either the stealership or an auto salvage yard, or the aftermarket fiberglass version from Certifit. I realize I will need to get the scoop and insert for either one and will also have to paint either to match my desert dune 4Runner as well, but I am wondering whether there is any drawback or disadvantage to using the cheaper option from Certifit?

Fiberglass is prone to cracks and fading much faster than metal. (Found out the hard way on an old Camaro I had). Personally i'd go OEM Toyota. The fitment will be perfect and it is the best engineered product to fit your vehicle. There really is no substitute.

where did you hear that the Certifit hoods are fiberglass? They should be the same as any other non-oem hood, which are typically steel. There should be no drawbacks other than the fact it's not oem. You'll never be able to tell the difference and it should fit just like an oem one would.
my bad, I was under the impression the Certifit hood was lightweight fiberglass...

why dont you just take your 4runner to gas monkey garage and have them do it up for you.
even though they're only a mile down the road from where I'm sitting right now, I wouldn't want those clowns touching my 4Runner...

Definitely metal unless fiberglass rusts. Ive been riding around with a certifit sport hood for 1½ years now. I didn't paint it, just left it with the black primer. That lasted about a year until it started rusting on the top.
