Sport Hood?

I would doubt it being the same price as the non-sport hood. It certainly costs more to produce the sport hood, factory or aftermarket. I personally would not bite on a website with no part numbers and no phone numbers.
Try www.Certifit.com. There is a listing for "Hood panel (99-02) with hood scoop" for $75. You can call to find out exactly what you get with a "Hood panel"/ I'm guessing you'll still need the scoop itself? I have read forum members vouch for their quality.
 
You think there is any other way to get a sport hood other than getting one from a dealership or a junk yard? I'd like to think that there is some internet site that sells oem hoods but maybe that is not true at all. It is really annoying that these things seem very hard to come by...

Thanks man, I ran accross that one today. I have a 2000 limited by the way. Do you think that anyone could tell the difference between that one and the genuine toyota sport hood? Also, does it come with the insert and all the other parts that go along with a sport hood? How does yours look? Can you post a picture? Thanks

You can have my hood for twelve grand. It will come attached to my 4R. Quite a deal!

Honestly though, you might try looking online at trucks for sale of your same color that have the sport hood and offering to swap it out with your hood plus some cash. It'll already be painted your color, and that person may think that they're getting extra money for the sale of their car basically for free.

This is how I got the towing mirrors on my Tundra - I just called around to a bunch of guys who were selling their trucks on autotrader - told them I'd come out and swap my mirrors with theirs and give them $100. Took a few phone calls but I would've spent ~$400-500 buying new ones from the dealer.
 
Smart thinking, that is a great idea! I don't know if it would work for me very well, though, because my hood has a dent in it and tiny rust spots. I called a genuine toyota parts dealer today about it and all they have is a bare metal sport hood. They told me that they could not ship it without it getting damaged and that it did not have any of the scoop parts with it (such as the insert, bulge, etc). They wanted like $350 for just the bare metal and I would still have to buy the other scoop parts. I guess I'm just going to have to wait until I run across one or just break down and pay the dealership. It sucks that these things are so hard to find....
 
My brother ordered mine from Keystone for $190. This was the hood with the scoop and scoop hardware. It would still need to be painted of course, and the hood insulator is different for the sport hood.
 
004gunner that seems like a good deal. I haven't ordered the hood yet so I'm not sure about the insert. IF the link works that I posted it shows a pic of the hood but its hard to see any details. The site says that it comes primered. Can't hardly beat it for the price though. The shipping is more than the hood!
 
This seems to be the number for the replacement hood that I found: T130101. Google and see what you can find. :biggrin2:
 
All this talk of painting sport hoods is giving me flashbacks :cry:

If it happened today, absolutely. That was ~6 years ago when the bank still owned the truck. I just wanted it back to original.
Yeah, let me tell ya... the 4Runner is no match for a big Mack plow truck.

I feel ya. Ran my 04 Pontiac Vibe into the back of a chevy pickup and it it wasn't pretty either. Thats how I got my 99 runner! Thank you State Farm!!
 
Wow SkidPalace, that is really unfortunate. A friend of mine found that 4runners don't do very well running into the back stopped H3s either haha. I called AAA today and they said it would be $1170 for the hood installed along with a paint blend. That is just insane. I found where this guy did it himself: Toyota Hood Scoop Maybe it would be significantly cheaper to get all the parts myself and then get a body shop to put them together and paint it. $1170 seems just a little ridiculous to me for a hood...

Yeah it was a dark and snowy night back in '03, the snow plow had about 50 cars lined up behind him and he nicely pulled over to the shoulder to let everyone scoot by. As my part of the fright train was just about even with the plow, my tire got the side of the groove in the snow and my rig started fishtailing. Wouldn't you know that my truck hooks up as I am perfectly 90 degrees to the fuel tank of the big Mack truck. I rocket straight into the side of the plow and the front of my truck asplodes.
200 miles from home. $8,000 in damage (including a few hundred for the tow).
