Sport roof rack: Stealth LED Light bar install

Hi all,

I installed an LED light bar today as prescribed in this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/139354-stealth-led-light-bar-install.html . I used the same parts and followed the same basic principle. However, the Sport Edition roof rack is quite different than the SR5/Limited rack.

Pry off the cap/cover gently...I grabbed the top with both hands and worked side-to-side while pulling up and it came off. You can see it's held by just two plastic posts--no clips:

Need to remove two torx bolts and one torx screw on the inside of the rail:

Now the mount can be removed:

Here I show where I had to trim some spines in the mount to allow room for the plug and wires to be hidden. I removed the minimum to make sure I didn't compromise it's strength:

All trimmed and ready to put back together:

Use silicone or some type of sealant around the bolt holes before putting the rack mount back on:

Another key difference with the Sport Edition roof rack is that the channel in the side rails is narrower than in the SR5/Limited rack. This means that you have to remove the corner mounts anyway to slide the light bar brackets (w/draw bolts) into place. Everything slid into place and the corner mounts bolted down:

The cap/cover fits great and hides the plug and wires perfectly:

Op I am going have to say brilliant as I said before so I decided to take a look inside.

On the 08 4runners the inside did not look like yours did adding it looked like plastic inside of yours.

After opening up mine and finding it to be metal out came the Dremel, I had to make a round half cut in the back of my metal and two extra half rounded cuts in the general way yours worked. Took a bit more time but to do but they came out perfectly smooth and round. Also I ended up drilling a hole in the same area you did and cut the red and black and ran them thru the hole. I didn't want to cut like you did. After I pulled wires thru I re soldered then and done.

Glad you shared your idea makes it much more cleaner. I'm kind of a perfectionist about things like that thank you

you know, you can actually run the wire down the windshield trim into the engine compartment so you can grab power and wire up a relay.

thats how mine is running down the passenger side. you can see a little red along the windshield in this picture. all you need to do is make it flat dab a little silicone on it like half a penny size and slide it in the channel. mine is sticking out because i didnt get to teh silicone yet.

Double row will not fit. The gap between bar and roof is minute, cant even stick a finger in there. And also, double row bars have side mounts, not rear mounts.

Believe me, I wanted a double row at first but found out it wouldn't work without some custom fab work on mounts.

Single row bar lights up the night more than sufficiently. We're just crawling around here anyhow, no chance for pre-running at night lol

I really like the look of the stealth install - even tried it for a while but found a lot of light was hitting the roof and ended up moving it up to my cargo basket to get a better angle.

I will second that a double row will definitely NOT fit.
