I am planning on getting a V8 Sport 4WD and I know that 10 spk JBL is the only stereo that comes with a sport.

1). I was wondering if it would be possible to change the wiring harness to fit the Scion 6 disc?

2) Could I replace the stock with aftermarket HU? I think I read somewhere that it is impossible due to Toyota's weird wiring harness.

3). Should I say, " F-it, get the Sport and live with the stock HU." Don't really want a SR5 due to the Sport's XREAS, 13" brakes, Sport wheels, hood scoop. Limited is too $$$.

What are your thoughts????

I have a V6 sport that came with the 6 speaker system.

Are you sure that is true? In NY/NJ, the Limited's are shipped with either the JBL 10 speaker or navigation. The Limited is the ONLY model you can get the JBL on. The Sports and SR5's both only come with the standard radio. I wanted a sport with the JBL 10 speaker but they said none are made like that. Personally, I wanted the RDS system and the 6 disc changer. I would check with another dealer. Doesn't sound right to me.

It IS possible to get a Sport without JBL, you might have to go to another part of the state or out of state to find one.

1. It's nearly impossible to change out the harness so that you can add the Scion unit. I believe the JBL system in the 4Runner is a digital surround sound system, that's why it's more complicated to switch out.

2. You can replace the JBL unit with an aftermarket unit, it shouldn't be too much of a problem as a couple members have done it.

3. I really don't see what's wrong with the JBL system, especially the 6-disc model. I would've preferred that system on my SR5, but since I can't add it, I got the Scion unit. I've listened the JBL system and it's not all that bad. If you're really into the audio scene though, you might want something better.

My contact told me that in CA Sport only comes w/ the JBL 10 spkr. I actually found one in CA that doesnt come with it. Maybe they were talking about their dealer only. Thanks for all your input.

I bought my sport in CA and it came with the base stereo. They said JBL was not available in the sport.

I picked up my 2005 Sport V8 on Dec 16th and I have the 10spk JBL surround sound system and I absolutely love it....GREAT SOUND

My brother use to own a car stereo store and I did installs for him for years so I'm no stranger to great sounding stereos....The 10 spk JBL that you can get with the 4Runner is really good. I'll probably replace my head unit with a touch screen (controlling my car-puter)...but if you arent THAT big of a "stereo freak" the stock setup is just fine.
